New EG4 Firmware 18k,12k, Flexboss - FAAB-2525 and Gridboss - IAAB-16xx (9-28)

Is the lower MPPT voltage making a difference?
I still haven't run the lines from my panels to the FB21. I worked last night to get the panels that were a S4 to a S8 and install my disconnect switch outside.

I did test my Open VDC this morning and when the sun hit it I was well over 350VDC which is great (I'm aware that isn't the actual draw for power creation but it's a decent initial comparison)

If all goes as planned I can run some lines tonight after work and have it ready for a test tomorrow.

Did you get a replacement unit or are you managing the fault on the unit that failed?

My failed unit is boxed and waiting for EG4 to decide to come get it, the replacement has been functional for about a week now.

I also noticed a change in a fan behavior when it gets on above 6000, to my ears, it does not go to 100% fan at 6000…. instead, it seems more along the length of 75% but that’s just me. I will share a video shortly so you can decide for yourself.
Is this on the 18kPV or the grid boss?

It says there is LCD Firmware V23 but online has Firmware V20. Where do I find V23?
We are currently working on making this available on our EG4 website. In the meantime, if you’d like to update to LCD v23, please send us a DM, and we can get it installed for you.

I did the update today. Weekly schedule is still completely broken for me. Anytime I try to set a time in the weekly schedule it gives me the same "Operation failed, error code: 3" with no additional explanation or help.

For now I'll just be manually changing the schedule times every weekend so it doesn't needlessly use batteries during off-peak weekends. It'll be my weekly reminder of how much of a joke this company is. It never occurred to me the software could be so bad on a $4k product like this.

@EG4SoftwareTeam
Please send us a DM with your inverter's serial number so we can look into this issue for you.

I sent a DM too! Weekly scheduler that works and LCD update please!

Any info on this would be cool too! I tried my 4 panel string that goes to 120Vmp and it keeps dropping production:
  • 9.Improved MPPT behavior – MPPT will now initialize when PV input voltage is below 100 V.

Well I got an email back from SS & EG4 with a link to the v23 LCD Firmware.

Can I share it? Not sure....

I'll make the USB stick tonight and update to v23 and document it.... since it's not really well documented..

I have been told that this LCD firmware can be updated remotely via the EG4 Monitor Center.... just not in a view that we the consumer can see (correct me if I'm wrong here since I've never seen it as an option)

OK, quick recap: Follow the formatting and file copy instructions from the 18kpv, use the USB port on the side of the add-on display *NOT* the one on the communications board. No need to restart the whole inverter, just unplug/replug the display. It'll stop with two of the hexagons on boot up screen, sit for a bit then restart. You'll know it worked since it'll have the new EG4 logo and obviously the new version.

False hope.

Upgraded firmware.
Power down reboot.
Still unable to set PV Start to anything less than 140V.
Rewired to 4 panels and power produced on that string still oscillates from 5W to 45W per panel as MPPT fails to hunt for optimal output. Other strings are stable. Its cloudy today, so I'll see if they get some cloud edge and get closer to 800W/m2 for nominal output.
What exactly changed???? What does "Improved MPPT behavior" mean?
It’s not for the setting it’s for tracking earlier.

There were no issues before we were just seeing customers with smaller arrays could get a bit more out of their PV this way. It’s a small upgrade that give a bit more tracking.
I'm excited to try it out.

My 4s2p array dropped a few times when it was really hot and the voltage dropped. I finished the summer in 8s.

I have decent shading so 4s2p always produces better...unless it drops out and everything goes to hell.

Curious to see if this fixes that issue.

This behavior on a sunny day with 4 panels? Production collapses.

To be fair this chart doesn't show anything useful unless you back it up with more information. Did the inverter have somewhere to put the power at all times is the main question, otherwise it could have just been throttling the input based on load.

That is fair. I am grid tied full sellback. Not trying to rehash issues or bash eg4 efforts, but trying to understand what the improvement would mean for my system. Here’s the thread. I don’t have the data from that inverter any longer because it’s dc to dc board failed this summer.

I tried 4 panels for a couple hours yesterday after firmware upgrade with the same result. I then climbed on the roof and rewired back to 5 panels. I didn’t care to collect enough data to convince a skeptic, but my only motive is to have my system work as best it can with what I have.

Just did the update with my 18Kpv and Gridboss. I kept getting timeouts on the second part of the update on the 18Kpv. Had to switch to the app and directly connect to make the update finish correctly. GB had no issues updating. Will report back tomorrow if I see any issues.
Everything worked great today. Just updated the LCD on the 18Kpv this evening with success. I’m not having any issues with this firmware.

If you download this file, the folder name is still "LCD V20" and the 18kPV screen says V20 after an update and full reset.

Edit: I cleared my cache and redownloaded the file, and it says V23 now.
I couldn't get my LCD to update last night. I've done it several times before and this one wouldn't even initialize. I even tried a few different thumb drives.

Oh, OK, that's a landing page, which didn't render right on my phone (DOH!), you mean:
Which unpacks into a folder named:
LCD V23_18kpv_12kpv_USB update
and then follow the instructions at:

I might be thinking of something else, but I had to do a complete wipe of my thumb drive (not just reformat, but write zeros all over it with Linux 'shred') and then reformat it as FAT, otherwise it had some 'standard format which is OK for everything except certain embedded micros' partition scheme which prevented it from working. I've had to do this on several embedded firmware devices...

[Edit: Maybe the 'deselect quick format' in the instructions will take care of this?]

Just a thought...

Also, as above, make sure the .zip file unpacks into a directory called "LCD V23_18kpv_12kpv_USB update"

The LCD update is very quick from the thumb drive.
Pop it in, light will blink, display will freeze after a few seconds and buttons won't respond.
After about a minute, display will reboot and be on the new version.
BTW, no need to unzip the DWIN_SET folder, just drop it on the root of your USB drive.
