Non-inverter generator with 6000XP?

I understand the specs call for very clean power - like less then 3% THD - pretty much an inverter type output. Has anyone run one of the conventional style generators that advertise a THD of < 5%? Generac makes a few models models that fit that description. In my case my 6000xp is powering a sub panel with just a few circuits on it - HVAC, freezer, frig, computer stuff. This setup accomlishes my original main goal - reducing my power consumption during 2PM-6PM (summer months) when my TIME OF DAY rate is 52cent/KWH as opposed to 4.6 or after 10PM 3.6. But during a power outage I lose my water (pump) and my HVAC (the HVAC fan is powered off of the same 60AMP breaker that provides electric backup heat) - not to mention lights and everything else NOT connected to the inverter. I want to be able to wheel out my generator and connect it to my meter bypass device (that when it detects generator power - disconnect grid power to main panel - and connects generator power to the primary load panel. My wife knows how to do that simple process and there is nothing else she needs to do. If I go with a chargeverter there is more manual steps involved. One would be to trip the GRID breaker on the 6000XP so it would not see this dirty power from the typical conventional generator - which is what I currently have - and the 2nd one would be to turn the breaker on feeding the chargeverter - and than go start the generator. As I said an inverter - or clean(er) conventional generator would make this "loss of grid power" issue simpler. Thanks for any feedback!
