I am not really sure, that your USB tester is accurate at low mA. Once established and without excessive operation, but not sleeping, you should not need more than 25 mA.BarkingSpider said:

The current consumption of an ESP8266 highly depends also on the software. The WiFi operation being the biggest power hog.
By the way: the ESP8266 is best powered from 3,3V.
