Hello, I am based in Lebanon and due to the economic crisis, everyone is turning to solar as a primary source of power. Although these systems charge the batteries from the grid, they are considered as on-grid systems since they do not feed back the the grid. (Grid power is only available for 3 hours a day) We also do not have a ground/earth line coming to houses. Only live and neutral lines(240v).
My question is how should these systems be protected from direct lightning hits and indirect hits. Should an earthing rod be installed and connected directly to the panels frames? Should the distribution boxes fitted with AC surge arresters (photo below) be connnected to the same rod? Is that called a ground or earth in that case?
