both great inverters guessing you are seeing the 12 volt versions from campers correct? the only issue that pops up regularly with magnums as they age is burning the small transformer on the charging board (12 dollar part form mouser or digikey to fix) it only affects charging from grid or generator, not inverter itself, and the temp sensor on the main board. the temp sensor is potted in and a PITA to dig out of the potting but once out its a 50 cent part from digikey or mouser to fix. only had one of the xantrex units, only complaint i had was the grid input needed to be very stable or it would drop out repeatedly eventually burning up the same small transformer as the magnum (different part# though) and its more of a PITA to swap out. (this was on a freedom series xantrex)
both were/are older designed LF inverters but very robust as a result. the magnum MS2012 in my camper easily powered my pancake compressor, chop saw, electric chainsaw, and a few other hand tools (one at a time of course)
those issues are almost exclusively due to abuse. that being said my MS2012 was produced in 2010, purchased in 2011 and has been powering a small freezer 24-7 in my camper ever since then. if the price is low enough they are actually a great deal. repairs are easy on these units, where with the current HF inverters nothing can be repaired, they are throw away units.
