I heard there is a company that designs, engineers, and gets permits for you for a $600 ish dollar fee depending on your build. Everything I googled says you have to buy their stuff to get that service but my system is all purchased. Does this still exist? Initially the plan was throw some 18 panels on a ground mount and be done! We bought a house with a half acre a few months ago. Recently earth angle and spinny rotation sun things have caused my backyard to become a shadow of my house at about 4:30pm. I got close to 6 hours of good production today. The roof is seemingly looking like a better spot as the seasons change. It gets sun almost all day. It faces west with about 1/4 south, location VA. I have a 6000 xp, 18 370w panels and diy 280ah battery pumping into a critical load center. I dont have any usage stats yet as I cant get the stupid wifi to connect.

I am trying to decide is it worth going through the hassle of permits galore, engineering, murdering my shingles by purchasing roof mounting system, re-doing my entire system if I dont have enough brackets holding my conduit up, OR should I just lay low and call it what it is, low production time of year.

Get permits, its not that hard, here is whom I used ( GreenLancer ) for the PE wet stamps, they will do the full line drawings as well.
Had greenlancer do my complete package which was a painless process. Now that I am starting the install I notice my electrical “Line Diagram & Calculation” page is very vague. I have a ground mount, in series, 3 string system. It shows 6-L1,L2 and 1 ground from the panels to the combiner and then through to the DC disconnect. The issue is from there it only show 3 L1,L2 and 1 ground from the DC disconnect to the inverter. Also it is tied into the grid (main service panel)
I would love to see how they designed your system (even though it is likely a different arrangement) and if it is the same issue as mine has.
All has passed through the county and signed off but may have an issue with PG&E, our electrical provider, when it comes to their inspection.
