I am humbled with this entire solar journey.

It started over a year ago. Getting batteries from a certain location on a slow boat seemed like the biggest challenge.

When they finally arrived I breathed a sigh of relief. Now I could proceed. Then came the BMS and learning curves with a battery build from scratch.

Other things competed for needed funds. Money was slowly set aside. Over a year later the Inverter charger and then solar panels arrived.

Finally, I felt I was ready to proceed. Then I started learning more about things like Arc fault, Surge protection devices, NEC, the list goes on and on.

Each time I learned something, the wish list grew and the deadline moved further away. Fortunately there is no hurry.

I keep reminding myself that this will get done. Admittedly there are more important things in life that compete for time, attention and funding, but there is a finish line.

I honestly, in my simplistic thinking felt I would finish by the end of last year. However, each day I find myself grateful for the minds and resources this forum provides. I shutter to think what I might have built otherwise.

Can anyone else relate?

Ya, I started out the year looking into solar. Submitted for some quotes and went to a Home & Garden show. Got bids, and talked with a lot of companies. They all seem to lose interest in me when I asked so many questions, some they couldn’t answer or say they don’t do that, etc. With my own research, to get the setup I want, I decided to do it myself.

I started in 2016 simply wanting to add a second 3kw system to compliment our existing 3kW Solar City leased system installed in 2011. Didn't even know about microinverters at the time which is what I eventually decided on. Fast Forward to 2018 wanted to add battery back-up but didn't even know the difference between high & low frequency Inverters or AC vs. DC coupling. Needless to say my initial internet searches turned up nothing relevant since I didn't even have the basic industry terminology necessary. Was very annoying in the beginning.
