"Please stay on topic" in ALL threads...do we need that?

Over enforcement can be problematic as well. For example, someone throws some blame around for a problem (instead of discussing the solution). Now do we let the blame be unfairly placed? Going off on that tangent will be called off-topic. The poster that starts the mud flinging can often just start it and step back and watch.

Just leaves the "off topic" part of the BS not addressed and uncorrected.

So, I know we talked about allowing the OP to remove posts that are off-topic in their own threads ... ... We decided not to allow it... but I still think there may be some merit to the idea.....

I know in a couple of my recent threads they have started on topic, and then went left for a good number of posts...

So, if we don't want to allow the OP to remove posts, maybe we allow the OP to make a no replies post so it can't go off topic ---

That reminds me of a story. I had set out to install some new solar panels one morning when the phone rang . It was my neighbor and he needed a hand fixing his truck. The truck was a Toyota which as everyone knows is from Japan. Why is it we import trucks into our country instead of making our own?

Should I use a 15A fuse for the parallel connection? or is it better to go with Bifacial panels?
@Mattb4 You get it! Where do we draw the line in the sand when part of the post goes astray yet another part of the same post directly relates to the OP's topic? Some, like @Q-Dog will immediately throw the red flag, even though part of the post directly correlates to the OP's original topic, while others have no issue with the ebb and flow of the conversation.

Conversation between humans ... there is an ebb and flow to speech which has some relation to how we conduct our online conversations. This would be a boring and sparsly populated forum if we only directly answered a question then moved onward.

Went out to pull some old panels off a pole mount and replace them with new bifacials. Thought I had everything ready, nuts, bolts, mc4 connectors, wire, everything ... drat, 1piece short of channel strut and I'm not making a 60mile round trip to get another stick.

Don't you hate it when that happens.

Yeah, that huge banner is space that could be earning some advertiser dollars for the site.
Yes, we see what you did there

I know what to do.
Start posting 30 day warning points for every off topic post a moderator finds...
Heck, Will could start paying mods to find the posts.
Like a bounty, or maybe have a quota for warning points given out?

Mods gotta eat too...
Launching a mirror into space and bouncing sunlight to the mods houses for every post they find off topic seems like a much simpler option. You could then use that reflected light to bake cookies you eat while looking for more off topic posts.
