I live in South India six months a year, the limit of my five year visa. I have small 70 year old house surrounded by 50 coconut trees, bananas, papayas etc. actually much like my house in Nicaragua at the same latitude and 178 degrees east.
The municipal power fluctuates between 180 and 240v and no power for 8 hours four times the last month. China and India are not on speaking terms so I don’t have access to our dear Amy and all the sources of solar the rest of the world does. Oddly enough though, I had a 24v 100ah LFP built which arrived last week, using EVE cells manufactured in India. Inverters are a much bigger challenge as few use solar here, most houses relying on inverter UPS and giant FLA batteries for power cuts.
I found a suitable inverter after much searching, an all in one looking like a 1980s Bollywood DVD player in gold, red, green with a tiny LED screen for setup. 2000w 100v MPPT, 1500w pure sine but a 3000w surge for 30 seconds. The sucker is heavy! I’d like solar but it makes no sense here. I side a simple life and use about 80kwh a month for $6 and .60 a month connection fee when not here. Panels and mounts wouldn’t pay for themselves.
The house is always on battery power and in the event of a disaster will keep the course lit for 3 days if I don’t charge the e-scooter. The scooter is amazing, about 45 miles on 1 kw! Inverter LG fridge, 400w a day. A few lights, chargers, MacBook and I have everything I need.
Total cost, $550. I’m so happy.
