PV plus Wind turbine charging a 48v lithium pack?

So I'm getting my head around PV but now I'm thinking a wind back up would be good, i see some are DC some AC? does MPPT come into play with turbines? could i use a bypass diod to switch between turbine and PV depending on which is supliying the most power? I can allready see this is an issue since my PV setup is 170v but any pointers appreciated..
