Hi,

I have a PVP2000 inverter and it suddenly stopped working after my contractor installed the Air-conditioner in our home. The contractor says that his Air-conditioner installation should have nothing to do with my solar.

Upon trying to see what is going on with the Solar, I found that the PVP2000 inverter has a solid red LED and indicates that it is in standby mode. I referred to the manual and it says that it would happen when DC charge is not coming in or some other ground related issue. I am clueless how to debug this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to make sure that I have done the basic troubleshooting and if that does not work then I might have to get a specialist.

Thanks,
Dave

Is the sun on?
Measure DC voltage at unit from PV panels: Is it between 115 - 380 volts DC?
Is the screen blank?

- Yes, the sun is shinning during the day, and still the LED indicates that the inverter is in standby mode.
- Yes, the screen is blank.
I do not know how to measure the DC voltage. Should this be done after shutting the inverter off ? Should the DC voltage be measured at the PV array output OR at the solar inverter input ?
I climbed up the roof and the wires from the panels are going into a box and then routed into the inverter.

You should be able to find a fault listed on the screen, have seen plenty with Relay Fault on the screen & just repaired them.

The screen is blank. So no fault code listed. Additionally the LED is illuminated RED. For faults, the manual says that LED should be blinking RED.

After reading the manual, its either got no Solar voltage or its the wrong polarity. Check at the Inverter for DC voltage & also check its the right polarity. Also the box at the solar panels isn an isolating switch & turned off?

Without a DC voltage meter and the lack of knowledge of how to measure DC voltage it's going to be difficult to help further.

I was hoping you could measure the DC voltage at the input of the inverter with it on.

Volt meters are pretty cheap and are an excellent tool to have. YouTube videos on how to measure DC voltage should be available for educational purposes.

Thanks for the message.
I got the DC Voltage meter, but do not know how to use it. The inside of the inverter shows 3 terminals marked DC+ and one terminal marked DC-. Which two terminals do I probe together DC voltage. I am attaching the image and would appreciate if you could help.

DC+ and DC-

DC+ and DC-

As I said it has 3 places where it says DC+. I went through the manual and figured the terminal to probe. It is giving me a voltage of almost 0. When I probe, it starts with a value around 5 V and then gradually keeps dropping to 4V , 3V and if I hold long enough it might go down to 1V.

What DC Voltage do you get when measure between the PV+ (Red wire) and PV- (White wire)?
Since you have the cabinet panel open, you will not get the Solar panel Voltage reading because the Lockout switch (the white rectangular device with circle in the middle) is open circuit when the cabinet panel is in place.
Who installs the system for you?

I have fixed the system. There was an open circuit due to some animal that might have tripped on the cable and opened a connection. After fixing the open connection, the voltage is 350V and system is working just fine.
