So i bought 4 lifepo4 prismatic cells off aliexpress. I pulled back the black plastic and found a second real qr code. I can't determine what brand they are based on the qr codes. I'm thinking one isn't a real qr code. The qr code under the black sticker gives " T210329C1011458" as the result. Claimed 320ah

How reliable is this decoder? I ask because yesterday I put in a QR code and today I put in the same QR code and got a different result

Does anyone know if this Gobelpower decoder is accurate?
It may be an issue with the browser, the "Decode" button does not show in your snapshot. If you lookup 001CB31, it should show unknown capacity, and 001CB2W should show CATL 280Ah.

Capacity code is tricky, this code is in the manufacturer's database and they will not disclose it.

The production date code is following the rules of the industry, so it will be accurate if following rules to decode it.

In your snapshots, same code but different production dates, the decoding algorithm is same, one code cannot has two production dates. So one lookup may not be submitted successfully, refresh the page and look up again.

Your code is 001 CB3 100 000 02B BJ1 105 706, 15-17 digits (BBJ) is production date:

Year: 1~9 represents 2011-2019, the next years are in alphabetical order A~Z, A represents 2002, B represents 2021…
Month: 1~9 represents January to September, A~C represents October to December.
Day: 1~9 for the 1st to the 9th, A~V for the 10th to the 31st.
I, O and some other letters are not used due to similarity with numbers.

B is 2021,
B is Nov,
J is 18th

So production date BBJ is 18/Nov/2021. Your 2nd snapshot is right.

PS: for model CB31, it should be 280Ah cells according to the CATL specification sheet, but some sellers sell it as 300Ah or 310Ah cells, it will not be added to the database before official confirmation from the CATL, so now it shows unknown capacity.

Have you ever looked up code starting with 001CB2W? these codes will show CATL 280. I think your first snapshot should be the results for 001CB2W, after you input 001CB31, due to some reasons, it was not submitted to generate new results.

Now I think I find the problem. Here may be your process:

1. You looked up code starting with 001CB2W, and got the result of the first snapshot.
2. You left the page open and got back 10+ minutes later.
3. You input 001CB31 and hit the decode button.
4. Then you saw the first snapshot again.

Here is why: there is a secret key to get lookup results, but the key will be expired every 10 minutes, if it expired, no lookup results will be returned, so it showed your last lookup results.

This is a bug, it will be fixed.

320Ah is definitely false. These simply don't exist. Any seller selling these should be avoided anyway (primary on aliexpress)

302Ah are the biggest CATL makes, only EVE has 304Ah cells afaik.

agreed, when new they may test higher the first few cycles, and some sellers take that as their rating

Yes, no cells with norminal capacity 320Ah in the market, BYD may have, but it is nearly impossible to get.
CATL 302 usually has swelling problem, EVE has not released new 304 cells to market for weeks.

I am totally new to all of this, but I really appreaciate this tool being made available on the web.

I have a quick question for @lfpinside if you are still there.

A merchant has just told me that whereas EVE used to allow cells graded A+ and A to be sold on Alibaba, they have now redesignated A grade cells as B, and that the B grade is now included in the QR code for those cells. Are you able to confirm this, and do you know where the B appears in the QR code.

Here it is

For your first question, I have no confirmative answer yet. I think Cells with B mark are same as previous cells with intact QR sold by third-party suppliers.

I do not want to use Grade A/B system, because now it is full of confusion considering some suppliers claim they have A+, A- or even A++ cells.

Grade A/B system is a relative system, what is Grade A depends on how you call the best cells. If the best cells is A+, then A is the second best.

There are two kinds of cells. 1. Cells sold in EVE Alibaba official shop. 2. Cells sold by third-party suppliers.

EVE begin to print B mark on cells for third-party suppliers because they want to discriminate those cells from cells they are selling in Alibaba official shop.

If both kinds of cells have intact QR, customers have no way to distinguish. The only difference is the official test report, printed paper or Excel, but it is easy to counterfeit.

Thanks for that. This is a steep learning curve for me. I tend to rush in blindly, when I should really be doing more rresearch in advance.
