Question about fusing 2 battery’s in series

I finished this project for a friend , but now I’m to think I made a big mistake. There are 2 200Ah AGM battery’s connected in series , with some space in between. All the electronics are on the right side. The leads run under the floor in a protective tube. The battery negative is connected to the vehicle chassis. What will happen if the positive lead between the 2 battery’s damages , and makes a connection to the chassis? Is it advisable to put a fuse on the positive battery post on the left battery , or fuse the negative lead on the right battery? Thanks!

I can't really tell much from the pics, but it doesn't matter. I would definitely put at least a fuse on the most positive post. Something like this would work, although you may want a 100A or 200A instead of the 300A fuse.

If there is distance between the two AGMs and the lead from one to the other may be subject to whatever you are afraid of, put a second fuse on the positive post of the first battery too.

Thank you for the reply. The most positive post is fused right now. I now the chance is really low the lead between the battery’s will short , but I don’t want this van going up in flames. Guess I will go back to put in a fuse
