Rigid metal conduit

Good morning,

I need some 3” pipe for the cross member on my solar pole mounts. I’ve got 4” rigid metal conduit for the base and a pole top fixture.

Not finding it on craigslist and it’s pretty pricey.

Will “other” pipe work? e.g. we have lots of oil field pipe. Or “regular“ steel pipe from the metal place?

Or is rigid metal conduit special and more rigidy?

I don’t mind filling other pipe with concrete to stiffen it up. But I don’t want to have to do this twice.

Thanks!

EMT conduit is quite soft and definitely not the correct choice for making racking of any type and will end in an epic fail.

I think you will find that rigid metal conduit is schedule 40 and it intended by Tamarack as structural pipe.
