I acquired a Victron Orion DC to DC charger 12v/12v 50A. I have a spare Victron AD to DC 12V/25A charger that I can put into 'power supply' mode. I have a bus bar I'm not using. I also have a spare Cerbo GX mk2. A sort of 'test bench'. Here is what my plan is. Let me know of any issues you might see, and a question below.
AC to DC Charger as power supply:
Connect victron 12V 25A charger positive to a positive bus bar.
Connect victron 12V 25A charger negative to a negative bus bar.
Plug in and turn on the victron 12V 25A charger, connect with bluetooth, configure it as a dc power supply.
Once configured, unplug power to the AC to DC charger.
Monitor & reporting:
connect victron cerbo GX positive to the positive bus bar. It has its own fuse.
connect victron cerbo GX negative to the positive bus bar.
Plug in the victron power supply, then configure cerbo gx, then unplug AC to DC power supply.
DC to DC charger:
connect victron Orion 12/12/50A input positive to a MRBF attached to the positive bus bar.
connect victron Orion 12/12/50A input negative to the negative bus bar.
connect VE.Direct cable from Orion to Cerbo GX
Plug in the victron power supply, then configure Orion/verify it shows up, then unplug AC to DC power supply.
This is where I am unsure to go...
I plan on using this as a way to provide 50A to an existing battery that is already hooked up to a victron 12V system.
Using this orion xs DC to DC charger as a way to send 50A over to the battery instead of just using the 25A of the victron AC to DC charger.
Therefore, I am pretty sure that I can...
Q: Can I connect victron Orion 12/12/50A output positive to a MRBF attached to the positive bus bar of the other 12V system? This way the shunt will see the 50A coming in vs. directly connecting to the battery of that system.
Q: Where do I connect the negative from the other system I'm trying to charge? From its negative bus bar over to this system's bus bar?
I think I can do this, just want to ask first. I have concerns about how the output of my orion XS will connect to the system I am trying to charge.
