Hi all, I asked this in another thread yesterday but got no response so I thought I'd try it this way.

Simple question: can someone confirm from direct experience that the Seplos V3 BMS does proper closed loop communication with the EG4 18Kpv?

If this has already been asked elsewhere I apologize, I did a search but found nothing specific.

Thanks all.

I guess I'm either asking my question incorrectly, or no one is actually operating closed loop with EG4 18Kpv's and Seplos BMS?

Seplos says it will work so I guess I'll proceed, but with some trepidation....

If the Seplos BMS supports one of the protocols on the list, there’s a chance they could communicate. However, it ultimately depends on the BMS. Sometimes they work great, and other times they work but not entirely as expected.

Ok, thanks for the response. I'm just a bit surprised if no one on the forum has already tried this combination, since both Seplos and EG4 are popular products.

Here is SEPLOS' compatibility list. It shows Plyon CAN, Pylon RS485, and Luxpower CAN. I'm assuming selecting Luxpower CAN on both devices would be the most promising option. Thoughts?

I have read elsewhere the SEPLOS v2 (10e) and the v3 work with EG4. You may not get all the battery info that EG4 batteries BMS can provide but will allow you to run closed loop.

I am on the fence about SEPLOS vs the new JK inverter BMS (has its own baggage). The only reason I’m considering JK is due to the active balancer.

Any other settings besides comm protocol selection that would need to be changed?
You should just need to set Luxpower on the battery and lithium battery 6 on the inverter.

From reading the raw mod-bus data from the inverter the non-eg4 batteries do send all of the data the eg4 batteries do. The Inverter software/website it appears chooses to not display said data from non-eg4 branded batteries.

Thank you for that information.

I am considering Seplos because I'm working with Amy Wan at Luyuan on purchase of some of their battery cases. While Luyuan offers both JK and Seplos, they only offer heat pads with Seplos. I'm installing in an unheated location so I need the heat pads. But Amy is also saying there have been some issues with Seplos' heat control.

Sigh. As you say, both seem to have their baggage. Luyuan does offer Seplos active balancers as an option with their Seplos equipped boxes.

What data does EG4 choose not to display from 3rd party batteries? Does at least basic SOC data display properly? And does EG4 make use of the 3rd party battery SOC data for its control functions (specifically smart load and gen start signal).

Thanks again.

min/max cell temp and min/max cell voltage, current to each battery and cycle count from looking at people with eg4 batteries vs what mine show.

It is not that big of deal since if you are debugging what appears to be a battery issue you need to load the bms app to see what everything looks like.

I have the JK, and the 200a active balancer 16s JK + LCD direct from china is about $140, but I don't know about how well it works with a heater.

As far as the inverter, you would just need to make sure it is on the right protocol code. As far as the battery side, I would recommend contacting Seplos and asking them what else you would need to change on the battery side.

Great, thanks guys. Chris G do you recall where you read that Seplos V3 and EG4 talked? I couldn't find anything specific searching this forum.

The JK supports heating as well but Luyuan only offers it in their kits with Seplos. Amy is great to work with so I want to stay with that BMS manufacturer if I can.

Seplos has a setting for Luxpower but not specifically for EG4 so I guess the risk is that EG4 has some protocol differences from Luxpower. Anyhow from this discussion it looks like I can proceed with reasonable confidence.

The EG4 has a EG4/Luxpower protocol battery setting and a separate Luxpower protocol setting( I assume the EG4/Luxpower is somehow slightly different). The 2nd one is what most use with the JK BMSes.

I'll have to search, it was either here or on the SigSolar Facebook page. I use the YAMBMS project currently with my non-smart JK BMS. I tried both the Pylon protocol and the real Lux protocol with that project and Lux works great, including getting battery info such as temps, min/max cell, etc from the ESP32. Note I mentioned real Lux protocol as someone provided the full spec which the Devs incorporated.
