Seplos Mason Issues :(

I purchased them all top balanced from Gavin Wallace at Lynx Power. He helped me during the set up but the cells were sat for quite a long time as the G99 sign off took me a long time to get sorted. Not 100% sure on the cells but I know they are 280Ah.

I did wonder about buying an active balancer to add to the Seplos Mason (as I’ve got the v2 that doesn’t have it).

I add a neey 4a by default to my masons, but after 300 cycles their runtime is less than 2 hours after initial commissioning.
You can see in my above posted screenshot that the passive balancer is quite capable keeping the cells in balance

Somehow I very much doubt these cells were properly top balanced.just judging by the cell voltages you send
You can find the right procedure right here in the resource section.
Also...
It might be very much worth looking at what BMS config you run, and optimize that.
First thing first though, as I like to work off facts.
Please first fully charge you battery and send a cell voltage overview when you SOC resets to 100%

Happy to charge to 100%. Guessing I just need to alter the inverter settings so nothing draws from the battery and ask it to charge to 100% starting now. It’s adding about 5% in 5 hours at the moment so it’s going to take a while I guess :(

One last thing..
Can you check in the ss app and make very sure active battery is turned off :

It’s turned on….. I have no idea what that means but do I need to turn it off??

Yes please..
Activate battery is only to be used for extremely discharged batteries, and will slowly charge them to a higher SOC
( Doesn't that sound familiar ?? ;) )

So it seems you may have multiple issues here..
Let's try this first, then send a screenshot of your cells the moment when they are reporting 100% SOC .
Please make sure you do this right after it hits 100% , as these cell will slowly settle down to a lower voltage when charging stops

On a sidenote..
It is, for me personally at least, a good idea to enable bms_err_stop.
This will completely disable charging and discharging when the BMS reports an error..

Better safe than sorry is my device

turned off activate battery and still charging. Based on the current charge speed it’ll take about 3 days to charge to 100% :(

BMS Err stop also now turned on.

It might take some time before it allows full charge current, I don't know if it uses the overall pack voltage or the lowest cell voltage to determine that point.
You might also have a bad setting in the BMS especially after an uncommanded reset of settings. You really need to get into it.

I think I will provide Rick with an complete seplos BMS config I use once I am 100% sure his cells are in good shape

How's your battery doing ?
It didn’t speed up at all. I asked the company I bought it through to have a look at the stats. He mentioned the voltage being all over the place.

It didn’t speed up at all so I let it charge to about 27% before stopping it. I’ve currently powered everything down including the inverter and the Seplos.

I looked back at the previous days since the 14th and even when the battery was at 70% it was still only adding the 5% each night so day by day it was getting lower and lower as I was using more than 5% each day.

What’s your take on the voltage diagram attached?

Gavin who I spoke to suggested possibly a loose busbar or something? Time to take the top and front off the battery maybe??

Very much so !

@houseofancients what would your take be on that voltage diagram? I’ve popped the front panel off and also took the top off but can’t see anything obvious. I’ll tighten everything up again with the torque wrench and then power it back up. I’m at a bit of a loss though.

Well, not exactly sure..
Tighting all nuts to 4-5 NM .
What you must do , is hookup the monitor software and a PC, and see if you can confirm the voltage bouncing

If so, look at all cell voltages in the app..
Could be a cell on the stairway to heaven

I’ll need to get the usb thingy ordered from Amazon again and make a cable. I can’t find the last one I made as I started using the app instead. I had to replace a lug on one of my cells as I overtightened it, I wonder if that could be the culprit.

With such large and unexpected voltage changes, I'd be getting my Fluke out and checking to see if the voltages actually are what the BMS says they are.

I'm a little late to the game here, but my first thought when reading the first post, is a FET or multiple FETs have let loose the magic smoke. It explains the high temp for a short period, and the inability to charge at higher rates (as some FETs are still alive).

Just my thoughts.

Or, alternatively ..
Order a waveshare usb to rs485 adapter and a network cable

Actually, that isn't even a bad thought, but Rick should be able to see and smell a burned smell now that he has the top off

Ok, so the electrical burning smell is interesting. I could smell something in the garage in the days before this happened but put it down to some new radiators we had put in the garage to store on that day. Now the top is off I cant really smell anything though. The smell was probably about a week before the slow charge started though.

Will connecting to the laptop assist with checking if it is indeed one or a number of dead FETs?
