Server Rack Battery vs DIY

EVE, and there are a number of trusted suppliers here that are all around the same pricing

The other thread scolding a guy for falling for the Aliexpress scam, says nobody makes anything above 280 ah and that should have been his first clue the listing was a scam.

???

than this guy has proven to be grosely misinformed twice.

1. buy of aliexpress , only scrap and used to be found there

2. there are 3 manufactorers that make 300+ cells :

EVE - 304 ah ( same physical size as 280k )
CATL - 302 ah ( same physical size as 280k )
gothian - 340 ah

these would be the factory qr code scan results on my cells that just came in last week

Just doing some numbers from Will's links and adding the $100 for wiring etc. for high quality cells vs something like the EG4 batteries I come up with $258 per kWh for the DIY and $278 per kWh for the EG4. If you just price the cells it's $236 per kWh. I know you can get B grade cells for way cheaper but I can't see me ever going that direction. I think it all comes back to personal preference, time, skills, and interest.

Will did a video on this subject about a year ago -

I used the figures provided, the argument was it was only 21% difference when in actuality it was much higher.

Don't shoot the messenger, straying from the actual discussion of the difference (using the numbers posted) because some members can't use math if it doesn't agree with their thought process, is bullshit.

I used those figures, if you don't like it, then either you are arriving at an erroneous answer or you are using your emotions of being incorrect to argue the point. My math is correct using the figures provided. Post up your own figures and the math.

It's cell pricing.

I put in a quote to a trusted supplier and got $147.00 per cell for 280 Ah cells.

People are giving conflicting information on here....people like me need a bit of spoonfeeding on this issue.

If you can build a pack for 14 cents a wh, please provide a link to the exact cells you purchased. That would be enormously helpful and massively appreciated.

I wasn't questioning your math. I just don't think we're using the same cost factors.
Using the link from this site the cost of (4) 302AH, 3.2V cells is $899.
Add the $100 mentioned earlier and that's $999.
302 x 3.2 x 4 = 3,865.6 or 3.866 kWh.
$999 for 3.866kWh comes out to $258.40 per kWh.
I can do the math.

The EG4 on Sig Solar's site is advertised at $278 per kWh.

That's certainly less than 20% difference. All that said, I definitely am going to check out the information provided by @houseofancients on the EVE cells. Saving close to 50% and getting comparable quality is absolutely worth considering.

Don't forget Shipping in both cases.

To WA state, sig solar charges $300.00 to ship 1 battery or two (might be the same for more) so in my case I calculated for two batteries and get like 29 cents a Wh.

Or 23 cents for Diy.

That's why I want to know where these guys are getting the raw cells for 30% less than what I was just quoted.

not really you're quoting the pricing from a houston warehouse, which adds a significant amount
same cell from a china warehouse saves you 40 Usd per cell ( and adds 60 days shipping)
instant gratification comes at a price

You lost me again. My shipping Quote for raw cells was 147 per cell plus 16 per cell for shipping or $163.00 per cell for 280 Ah shipped from China.

the 304 cells i ordered from china came to 109 usd per cell, same cell from a ( somewhat) local warehouse 149 usd

this isnt that hard to understand now is it ?

on a side note, i would very seriously consider on skipping the 280k cells, as most , if not all dont seems to live up to their specs, and may even be downrated 304 cells

This thread is confusing me.
My take-away is that you should buy server racks unless:
  1. building batteries is your hobby
  2. Your time is not worth that much to you

or a third :
like to build and save a bit of cash, but dont want to spend a week or more doing so ;)

Docan shipping from texas warehouse is included cost is 149 ea for 280Ah cells I’ve gotten 32 shipped to Wa

$149 x 16 = $2384 + $150 bms = $2534. Using 280ah to be safe at 51.2V = 14kwh. $181 per Kwh? Seems like DYI still has significant savings.

I was planning on buying the EG4 x6 rack bundle for $9k, but now I am not so sure. I am already using a x8 (24v) 6 kwh DIY pack in my garage without issues (I am not even running a BMS), and the cost was significantly less for 230ah cells ($1000) than a server rack option.
