Should I connect the battery negative to ground inside ac fusebox?

What's your solution to this? Wrap the whole wire with white tape? Just the ends? Different source of wire?
Wire gage #6 and larger, can be identified at the ends.
Smaller wires must be continuously identified from end to end.

Personally I just buy black wire and use tape at the ends to identify.
I also don't worry so much about the NEC colours because I live in Canada and consistency and safety matter to me more than bureaucracy.

Of course everyone can do whatever they want.
Safety and consistency is the reason for the colors.
That way, anyone can tell what they are looking at.

DC (low voltage) black is negative, red is positive.
I don't think DC colors are actually specified for any specific colors at low voltage, but this is standard.
That is one convention for lighting.

You could have with 3-24 volts:
bk/wh, bk/yl, wh/yl, rd/yl, rd/gn etc
And ABYC has “standard” colors…
