Thinking for my next build of doing ..2013+Nissan full pack $2000-$4000 pair that with the SMA 5kw $2500 and use a product called packsniffer2 to control the insides of the nissan pack....aka contactor, pre-charge, and read the bms. So that leaves me with just needing to talk with the SMA about pack health. The SMA has 3 inputs for packs so I could expand with 2 more nissan packs. I like the idea of leave everything in the OEM box. Anyone seen any setups like this yet? I know the evtv guy has a tesla full pack controller...

Well look what just got posted, full Nissan G1 leaf packs. (I dont like the g1 chemistry) https://batteryhookup.com/collectio...complete-battery-module-24kwh-gen-1-2011-2012

Doing more research on this I would need to work out the SMA CAN signal that tells the $3500 disconnect to trigger. This project just got stupid $$$$ because of the SMA provided disconnect that is needed to talk to the SMA Sunnyboy storage.......

My post is about leaving the pack intact and using as is. I have broken up leaf packs before my current SMA is Nissan cells.

Having played with a sbs 6kw and byd 11kwh
The communication will be the hard part for sure
But totally doable with time.
One of the wires from the batt to sbs is an enable +12v. Then it has can and ground

You also have to use an energy meter

You can contact sma for the can message list
I think its sun spec.
Look at the installation manual good info.
I would love to do this with a full tesla pack.

evtv.me has the tesla mod 3 pack controller done now. The main thing stopping me from exploring this more is that damn disconnect / transformer. Id be into $6k for an SMA SBS. Other options out soon to just let me plug in car direct for that price.

There are numerous resources on the CAN bus message formats for the entire leaf pack. Numerous people are using it for gas to RV conversions where they use the entire pack or multiple packs, along with the charger.

Leaf Can bus decoding

See the product above "pack sniffer". This is not about decoding the leafs CAN bus that has been done.

I have never seen anyone use pack intact for the leaf everyone is removing cells for ev conversions.

were you able to get the can message list for the sma? I contacted SMA 4 weeks ago and haven't recieved an awnser yet, even after sending reminders

I never tried to. I have in the past gotten the sunny island can list from headquarters in Germany.

Hi there!

I'm also pretty much interested in getting in touch with the Canbus protocol for the Sunnyboy Storage. I've tried to get him working with a KIA battery but no clue why it get hooked.

I have one SBS 2.5 here going to a raspberry pi with a can hat. I can't even see the SBS.

Maybe has someone an idea where to look first...
