I'm very new to solar. I bought a Bluetti AC180 and am considering a 200Watt Renogy solar panel for charging it. I want to know if the solar panel can be directly connected to the AC180 and left that way even if it is fully charged and turned off. Or must it be unplugged so it will not overcharge. Instructions not really clear on that. Thanks, Mark

Does BLUETTI need a solar charge controller?

Whether you are building your own solar energy system or opting for BLUETTI products, the inclusion of an MPPT solar charge controller is essential for optimizing solar power utilization and enhancing overall system performance.

It won't overcharge. It will only draw what it needs to charge or power loads. But be aware at least with my ecoflow delta 2 max, when the pv input is connected, you can't actually turn the unit off. It's basically "awake". However that's when there's solar input.

What is the max input voltage for solar input on the Bluetti?

What is the temp adjusted Voc listed on the panel?
As the temp drops below 77F (25C) the voltage increases.

On dasssn't exceed max input voltage anywhere.

Not sure if it needs a controller, instructions don't really say. I will contact Bluetti for clarification.

Interesting that it will not turn off if charging from the panel.

The only stats they give are:
VOC is 12 to 60v, nothing about temp adjusted VOC
Input Current 10A max
Input power is 500 watts max

The mppt controller is built in. I was speaking of my delta 2 max the ac180 may be different. But usually you want it to charge in the presence of sun.

No you do not need a charge controller. The AC180 comes with an MC4 to 12v "cigarette lighter" adapter. Connect the panel to the adapter then plug the adapter into the 12v connector on the AC180.

The AC180 has it's own dedicated PV charging port. It's an 8mm barrel connector in the upper left hand corner, facing the front. It is marked "DC/PV input". The AC180 has an integrated mppt controler, so none is needed. It comes with a mc4 to 8mm pv cord. Also, the AC180 can take up to 62+ volts, and you can safely overpanel if you don't go above that. Unfortunately, this isn't the best place for advice on portable power stations, as the focus seems to be mostly on much larger component systems and just a couple of brands in general. Good luck!
