I am helping a Neighbor who is getting quotes for residential solar. He was quoted $30k for 3.6kW system with Solar Edge optimisers (9 400W panels), Solar Edge grid tie inverter.

I recommended a system with a battery for backup and time shifting usage because PG&E jacks up the rate 4-9pm and pays back 25% on sell back. This will never pay for itself but he is set on “getting solar”. I thought that getting something for grid down would be beneficial, more so than selling over production for pennies.

He was quoted an ADDITIONAL $10k for a battery because it requires “more equipment”, namely a StorEdge and autotransformer. That battery is the 9.8kWh LG 400V (formerly recalled) model.

From what I can tell, I “think” that if he can get the StorEdge INSTEAD of the SolarEdge and be all set (with autotransformer and battery of course).

Does any of this make sense or what am I missing?

Wow thats a serious quote.
Don't know where he is located but $8. a watt is expensive.
You are correct to exchange the inverter for store edge, maybe some more panels to compensate for charging the battery.

You are correct to exchange the inverter for store edge,
Will there be any lost functionality going from SolarEdge to StorEdge?
I am missing something, i cannot imagine why one would ever buy the SolarEdge if batteries were a possibility now or down the road.

Not a specialist on solaredge, run a grid tie for several years and inquired for battery backup and get advised to exchange my inverter.
Having not very good memories from SE support decided to change my setup with Deye much cheaper and working like a dream.
