Solis-RAI-3K-48ES-5G and Acrel ACR10R meter (yet another thread....)

It is incorrect that the meter information displays NULL. You can try changing CT INSTALL to PV SIDE in the menu.

I also have problems with communication between the meter and the inverter. My ACREL ACR10R meter also purchased from Aliexpress, and I suspect that the ACR10R meter comes with SOLIS has a dedicated communication protocol.

The Solis RAI is an energy storage system. It does not have any PV input.

That is incorrect. The Solis to Acrel communication protocol is standard ModBus RTU over RS485.

It is, of course, possible that the Acrel meters for Solis have used some dedicated ModBus registers that the version from Aliexpress differs from.

For a list of the registers used by the Solis you can refer to @peufeu's GrubBus Github project, where the specific ModBus registers are detailed in the 'devices' folder. Links to that project can be found in the his thread that I referenced in post #3 above.

Hi Jason, the inverter does say "Meter status NULL", I took the picture a second too late, and captured the "Meter voltage NULL" instead.

Have you changed the CT INSTALL menu to PV INVETER?I have tried using CT on the grid side before, and the METER information also showed NULL, so I guess you encountered the same problem as me.

Yes, I guess the ACR10R meter that comes with SOLIS may use a special register address instead of the official ACR10R address, because the communication light of my ACR10R meter flashes normally but the data displayed by the inverter is incorrect.

Unbelievable!

Changing the CT INSTALL menu from GRID to PV INVERTER seems to have magically solve the problem :)

The ACREL meter COM LED is now flashing and the Inverter appears to be detecting the amount of energy that the house is using.

I'm not going to be able to confirm it until tomorrow, but its looking like the issue is solved!!!!!!!!!

The inverter was still discharging at 3kw, regardless of the load, but I already had a feeling that this was related to the working mode

Advanced Settings -> Password:0010 ->STD.Mode Settings ->Working Mode Set

which was set at null.

I have tried some of the options which seem to successfully react to the house load for a while, what setting are other people using, I'm in the UK with G98 generating standard?

with thanks

(y) result... and my guess in post #18 on the right lines.

You didn't say what options. For the regular Solis Hybrid, "Self-use" mode does what most people want - not sure if that maps to an RAI setting though.

Yes, you were correct, it's just odd that the CT setting was the problem, obviously the CT and the meter are related, but I wouldn't have guessed that changing that setting would prevent the meter from working completely

So the WORKING MODE SETTING allows, Null, Volt-watt, Volt-var, Fixed PE, Reac-power and P-factor.

I haven't been able to fully investigate this issue yet, but when the setting is on Null, the inverter seems to just discharge at maximum rate, which is 3kW. When I have selected and saved the other settings, they seem to track the household load and the In Home Display hovers around zero watts which seems to be the goal with the batteries.

However, after a period of time the inverter appears to stop tracking the load and discharging at the maximum rate.

I'm not sure if I'm right, but I believe this setting controls how the inverter adapts to the changing load, and if so, I'm not sure if there is a specific setting that is required for the G98 generating standard.

Good news.

Can your inverter display the information from ACREL meters? Such as voltage, current, etc

I'm still investigating, but I have existing soIar panels and a hot water diverter that uses any surplus power. I have just turned off the water diverter whose CT sensor is next to the Acrel meter CT sensor, so [water CT------inverter CT------GRID] , and so far the inverter seems to be tracking the house load well, although the solar panels (which the inverter isn't aware of yet) are adding another bit of confusion into the mix.

The system has been working well all day, the issue was with the hot water energy diverter, so I now finally have a fully functioning system. The inverter also charged itself today due to the sunny weather causing the solar panels to produce some energy, so I'm not sure if I'll actually need to fit a CT meter.

Many thanks to everyone for their advice and support. Hopefully this thread will be able to help someone in the future trying to set up the Solis RAI inverter

I had the same issue. Finally everything was very simple. You have to measure cc in the port meter/ct of the inverter. If you don´t have more or less between 1 and 2 volts, the communication with the Acrel acr10 is imposible. That´s mi case. I had to use the toroidal transformer alone and all things working.
