Splitting EV OEM batteries to lower voltages

I like the power density and price of the used EV batteries. However, because of constraints on the layout and count of the solar panels, I am looking at an open voltage of ~40v (2x 12v panels in series).

So I'd need to split most of the EV battery options into shorter chains. In a extreme case move from a 26s to something like a 8s3p (losing a couple cells).

I don't see much discussion of this. Has anyone tried it? What are the main reasons people avoid this?

Thanks

Many EV battery modules just don't lend themselves well to this. That's one reason why the Leaf is so popular, the individual modules are 2S and can be worked with fairly easily.

The labor and skill needed to break down a "canned" EV module is often not worth the effort.
