Hey @Will Prowse I think it's time you come up with an SOP for trying out new products. Unlike AC which will zzzap you, HVDC can cause your muscles to contract forcing you into the electrocution hazard and you're toast. Glad to see you're still around after that, that could have been really ugly. Not to mention shorting a circuit with different hands runs it through your heart. Be safe, treat all products as if they're energized with the highest voltage possible.
I've had 97v showing up on a 120v circuit once simply from being parallel to another conductor that was live at 124v, despite knowing that both ends of a wire in a wall were not connected to anything. If you touched the 97v wire there was nothing there. It was enough to show voltage on a traditional meter and set off a voltage detector, simply by eddy currents alone. That wasted 20 minutes wondering where the magic voltage was coming from.
