Okay it happened. One of the M6 holes stripped out on my four EVE 280Ah cells. Please help.

I was going to simply retap for an M8 hole. But my taps lowest/beginning cutting edges will not cut thread deep enough until I get down 3/8" or so, which will puncture into the "chemical" inside the cell, rendering cell useless.

What is the brain trust's preferred method to fix this problem?

Anticipating helpful responses,
Mike

If you do a search for "fixing stripped threads" you will find a LOT of discussion about different ways to fix them.

Threaded inserts also exist, though I would imagine you would want to have the insert made of the same material as the battery terminal

You can certainly drill it oversize and put in an insert, but to thread the insert in you'll need a bottoming tap for that thread size. Might as well stick with the M8 that's started. They're not expensive, a standard set of taps for a size includes one.
