So I made the mistake of answering a call from a number I don't recognize.

He asks if I have a minute to talk about solar power.

I'm waiting on a build to finish compiling so... Sure, why not. Just a bit of background on me. I already have an 11kw solar array with 20kwh of batteries. This system is... Well someday I will get it approved if I get around to it.

He asks if I'm concerned about the rising cost of electricity. I say, not really.

He says he can zero out my energy costs completely.

I ask how is that possible. Northern Utah has no sun for 3 months out of the year.

He says he has a solar panel that can make electricity just from ambient light, moon light, streetlights etc. Enough to power a house in the winter.

Wow! Now I'm interested. I ask what kind of a panel does such a thing.

He says he has the newest technology. All different kinds of technology. Monocrystalline, polychristalline, bifacial. Okay. Not really an answer.

He also says he has all different kinds of batteries. Lifepo4. Lithium. Nicad. Lead.???

I ask why would you use anything but lifepo4?

He says because not every battery chemistry is compatible with every type of solar panel. WTF?

I ask him what his cost per watt is. He keeps trying to setup an in person meeting.

This was a very tough choice for me. I could have a painfully stupid salesman show up to my house only see that there's an existing installation there. The possibilities for hilarity are endless. But if I did then an irritated salesman might learn that I have a setup which, Um, I will definitely get approved someday.

I had to fake an emergency and hang up.

The local Lowes has solar installers walking the store trying to sell solar.
They walk up and ask what my electric bill is, I tell them 0. Watch their brain go into recalculate mode is funny.
I should play along but I don't have time for their nonsense.

Went to Costco today and those kiosk guys asked what cell phone service I have. I just pointed to my t-shirt.

I'm a high school teacher and I take every scam phone call on speaker with my students laughing in the background.

DO NOT REDEEM MADAM !

The callers and door knockers are paid on a pure commission.

They get paid to get a meeting, otherwise they get nothing.

Ya, lots of spam calls for solar and energy efficient home improvements. I usually don't answer but when I do, just tell them I'm a general contractor. They usually hang up immediately.

They make huge claims to "available technology" with solar ... just say "I've left all that stupid solar crap behind, and now am 100% nucular" (must pronounce it like this, to be understood) ...
