As markets yo-yo with some of the biggest movements in history Trump moves on to the next distraction with another impossible demand, this time from Ukraine. To say this in the kindest way possible Trump is increasingly looking like he’s completely out of his depth as the support from the MAGA faithful is becoming hysterical, reaching levels that would cause North Korean officials to blush. The order for military intervention on the border puts in doubt the separation of the military from civilian law enforcement, a worrying development. What next?

I think he just likes to see his name in the headlines everyday.

Trump quietly excluded consumer electronics from his massive import taxes. Link.

This decision may be good for the Apple's etc, for now Link. But it won't restore confidence, it won't boost investment in the wider economy... it's just yet another example of how you can't really trust anything that Trump & Co say or do. Congress could have acted to stop this chaos, had house republicans not intentionally crippled their capacity to respond. Link.

China has been putting export licenses on a number of goods in retaliation to U.S. export restrictions on China. Link. If not for the Trump "look at me" drowning out the news, it would likely have been more widely reported. In time China and the U.S. will lift their tariffs and leave these larger structural things in place. Playing the long game and using Trumps own chaos as cover. Link. The tariffs imposed on allies like the E.U. will make those nations less inclined to restrict those exports to China.

I still don't get what Trump is trying to achieve.

It’s classic diversionary tactics, creating an emergency to try & hide the fact that he has no answer to the fact that more than 70% of households live paycheque to paycheque. In fact, most of his ideas compound the pain.
I agree. Plus by creating the emergency, he can play the hero by "fixing it", which amounts to just eliminating or altering the executive order that created it.

A lot of what's happening is hiding the fact that a power grab is happening - the whole DOGE scam basically destroyed the idea of oversight by elected representatives or any checks and balances.

Trump did get his wish for a weaker dollar, at least for now, this will reduce any trade imbalance just like tariffs would. Expect inflation and I see there is already some noise about a 250 U.S. dollar bill. Link.

I have believed for a long time that Trump is just another manipulated "Trojan Horse" in the political playbook.
Im really not sure about that? Tanking the economy I can understand, there will be a lot of real physical assets available for fire sale prices but the damage done to American credibility & subsequent loss of foreign investment? Can’t work that out yet. Trump is obviously making this up as he goes along, he’s a dangerous narcissist with huge power so it won’t end well.
