** UPDATE**Signature Solar Disappoints- Commissioned a 18Kpv still having issues

While it’s silly to have bad documentation suggestion batteryless can work when in practice it is this level of shitshow…

It’s also silly to buy a $5000 hybrid with this degree of certifications for batteryless.

Who is the bigger A or I here, is up for debate

So finally I got my EG4 18kpv installed. Had my electrician do the final wiring to the electrical panel. CTs that came with the unit were damaged and to their credit, Signature Solar sent those right out and a few days later I started up my system. It seemed to be working as intended, and we left town for Thanksgiving. While gone we had guest staying at our house and they called saying the power kept going out. I had to have my electrician come out right away to bypass the system entirely. Had my electrician out again when I returned Dec 2nd to start it back up, but continue to have the problem of my power going out in the evening 1x and coming back on a few seconds later, but in the am when the sun is peeking, it goes off and on like a dozen or more times each morning. One of my ceiling fans no longer works, a little weather station no longer works that I had plugged in, I had a surge protector power strip fail and had a burning smell once in my garage. I have emailed and called signature solar almost daily with them telling me that the ticket is priority and someone will be in touch "soon". What a joke. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be? I think it's possibly a relay of some kind. I have no battery and have the grid wired in to the inverter. I have a 400 amp main service panel on my guest house and a 200 amp "sub panel" on my main home, currently I have the 18k pv in-between both and only feeding my main home with grid supporting the system as needed. It appears to be functioning as intended outside of my sun-up/sundown power disconnection problems.
Good evening,

I believe we may be able to resolve this issue, as I have seen a few instances like this, but I would like to check a few things on the inverter. It could be settings or firmware and I would like to verify how the inverter is set up. Could you send me a DM with your inverter S/N on it? I would be happy to take a look at the system and see what I can do to fix this issue.

I also noticed it is an older version of inverter so it may well have older firmware that needs updating.

As the CEO, I would expect your response to your customer to be a little more constructive.

@SignatureSolarJess - rescue your boss please.
Some of that behavior is unbelievable. They are on my Avoid Like The Plague list since I've been hanging out here, and it's mostly because of the CEO. I don't do business with people who come across as being that clueless. I have no idea what he's like in person, and I don't care.

You can't compare a grid-tied inverter to a hybrid.
That's like saying "my 3 wheeled car doesn't need a 4th wheel. So, your 4 wheeled car should be fine with 3".
I think that analogy doesn't fit well for units that claim to offer batteryless operation. Here's a snapshot from the EG4 18KPV manual, p. 39. (Highlighting on "battery" is supplied.)

With no batteries...raise the PV start voltage to 250v, start there and adjust as needed for your specific array.

Sounds like yet another firmware bug in the 18kpv.
It's a very complex piece of equipment with a lot of different settings, so it's user bug in all probability. The install pictures do not scream "I know what I'm doing".

I don't know why you're all so delicate.
It sounds the same as the hate for Elon Musk for no good reason apart from the fact he's a little bit different and highly successful.

I will happily take a transparent business owner who is actively engaged in the DIY community and these forums vs. an isolated, unengaged executive. Of course there are lines that shan’t be crossed (e.g. blatant bullying, racism, political bs) else I take my business elsewhere. James engages in here like another DIY’er (who just happens to own a very important supply chain for the community he engages with). I’m good with that.

With that said — it’s your money, your choice. I’ve boycotted businesses for disgusting behavior, harm to the public, or being all-in on positions I am completely against. But never because the CEO is actively engaged in the same forums I’m in and sometimes comes off harsh. At the end of the day, @James Showalter will make sure SS/EG4 does what is needed to make things right IMHO.

I firmly believe that some of these characters have notifications setup so that when @James Showalter posts, it alerts their phone, sounds an alarm, and changes the lights in their house to red so that they can immediately join and shitpost. It's truly amazing. James should send them all some shirts or hats for xmas that says "EG4's #1 fan!" I don't think even legit EG4 fans follow him as religiously a these "haters" which has me convinced that they are just projecting because they don't want to admit the truth to themselves.
