USPS Suspends mail from china. 2-5-25, apparently resumed

The $800 valued at threshold has been removed. If AliExpress had shipped when it was paid for instead of waiting for Chinese New Year to be over, the balancer would already be here.

Figured the Ali would eventually get me.

This totally justifies my binge on parts and batteries over last 2 years /

I just have to figure out how to justify this year
Same here. Just picked up what was probably my last pallet of solar panels a few weeks ago, 314ah cells and extra bms's a couple months ago.

Just received a package today from Temu sounds like it might be my last, oh well we can get the same cheap stuff from amazon just cost a little more

Got my Temu package yesterday. I'm glad it wasn't caught in that mess. I'm sure USPS doesn't know how to collect the tariffs. They don't have the infrastructure in place to collect tariffs. And most small items don't include a value declaration form attached to the package so they have no idea what the tariff should be. I believe that's the real reason why USPS suspended mail from China/HK.

Aliexpress charge VAT on all goods going to UK or EU, so that's 20% for UK and then pay it to UK Govt on orders below £135, above £135 it goes though normal import procedures. They just need to carry this over to the US and add on whatever sales tax/tariff % is needed.

Still need to sort out China still claiming to be a developing country so they get subsidised postage rates making it cheaper to ship from China than UK for the same package.

What's perplexing to me is this sort of implies that did not have an [efficient] mechanism for handling the tariffs that would've already been in place. Wonder why this requires something ... extra.

Maybe they have to do something they didn't have to do before? Like collect tarrifs on everything instead of just on things above $800?

They could not stop accepting this stuff for long, where was it all going to be stored ?
Poor broke USPS, have to do a proper job now.
