I'm putting together my first system, going with Victron 100/50 and starting with 2 100w panels with expandability to four or six in the near future. I ordered the Victron from Amazon, it arrives in its original box with no packaging material to protect it, And the box is torn up and taped with a shipping label slapped onto it. So I submitted it for a exchange for the same item, next one arrives in the exact same condition! Is this normal? Am I wrong to be concerned? It looks like it's built like a tank, but shipping it without packing material and letting it bounce around in the box doesn't seem like a good idea.

Personally I’d return it and order from a reputable company like PKYS. They shipped my Victron stuff well packaged, and they are specialists and can really help with technical questions about the equipment and configuration, unlike Amazon.

Yeah, that's not cool. It sounds like maybe you were getting some sort of warehouse/refurbished units. I probably wouldn't order from that seller/listing again.

I recently ordered a Multiplus 24/300/70 off Amazon and it came with a reasonable amount of heavy-duty foam bumpers inside the original packaging box.

Amazon does that for bigger items but the victron controller I bought was packed in another box with other items. Boxes I got looked brand new and undamaged.

Surprised you got that twice. Was it sold by Amazon or third party?

I always buy a couple of other things to get free shipping (no Prime membership ) and I find everything goes in an brown Amazon box or envelope.

I also only buy from venders where it is sold and shipped by Amazon or shipped/fulfilled by Amazon. Even if it is $5 more as. Then never a problem with returning it. If it is shipped by a third vendor then you are dealing with them and Amazon no help.

Most Amazon items that will ship in the original box, give you the option to use an Amazon box. I always choose that option if it is available. It costs nothing and does not delay shipping. Of course if it s coming from a third party, you are at their mercy.

Just an example

My two Victron 100/50 MPPT devices came from Amazon. I think mine were in an Amazon box, probably because I ordered two of them. That said, Victron stuff is well built. I don't think I would have sent it back. I would have opened it up, checked it for actual breakage and if none was found, called it good.

Got a much better price at Battle Born...fyi. very reputable company. I did get a couple other items but believe their price would still be better.

I’ve had a couple items delivered in their original box with no other packing and worked fine.

I did not like it but trust the return policy.

That box is pretty torn up, but consider that the box's purpose is to protect what is in it. A damaged box isn't by itself a reason to return an item. If the item doesn't work, the box could be a clue to why, but otherwise it simply did it's job.
