Good afternoon everyone,

I recently came across a HYMOTION A123 SYSTEMS L5 NANOSPHERE LITHIUM ION battery. They have a weird history were they where used for making Prius into plug-in cars. https://www.greencarcongress.com/2008/04/a123systems-lau.html Anyone know the cheapest way to get a window ac unit connected to this with solar panels to work? I hope not to have to take it apart but would be willing to if I have to.

Thank you!

Run. Run fast. Run far. Don't look back.

IMHO, you don't have a battery. You have a hazmat disposal issue.

10,000% certain that battery is complete and total shit. I've evaluated a couple that were completely dead and unrecoverable.

If you fail to take my advice, 10,000% certain you have NO choice but to open the battery and check each cell. Attempting to charge the battery may have catastrophic results.

https://www.plugoutpower.com/ markets battery-less inverters with PV fed from Prius batteries.

They did a poor job in the car, and they're all at least 12 years old (they shut down in early 2012) after having been abused in vehicles OR from just sitting self discharging themselves into oblivion for many years. Lots of reports of in-warranty failures before the 3 year warranty was up in the < 4 years they made them.

Worth noting that every option for PHEV on the 2nd Gen Prius eventually died, i.e., NONE of them were reliable. I own one removed from a car. It was better than a Hymotion pack, but it was still shit.

I've seen the plug out before and I am 100% certain its just a marked up unbranded pwr mr inverter. So just a string/hybrid inverter taking high voltage DC from the traction pack?

Agree, but not sure on brand. I've had one in hand to install in a Prius, but they obliterate the manufacturer and model number on the data tag. :)

But it sure has the markings of PowMr

Probably this one:

Probably the best advice on this forum ever!

Um...appears they don't. Per your link
"31 March 2024: PlugOut Power has sold out of inventory of our unique PlugOut inverters and will close its website in the first week of April. The Principal [Randy Bryan] will continue to provide support/warrantee service for another year on a best efforts, as available, no-liability basis to our customers."
