What software are people using to make solar system drawings?
I have basic CAD software, but I'm talking about those drawings you see with graphics of the various
pieces of equipment.

EasyPV we use, although designed fore the UK market it has pretty much every panel and inverter type listed

You can use a pencil and paper just fine. Any software that makes block diagrams can work.

If you need more than the diagram below, then you are spending too much time on paperwork and not enough with tools and wire.

There must be 10K diagrams online at this point, and 1K of them close enough to what you need without making your own - that is just like the rest.

+1 pencils & paper. I’m far from being computer illiterate but using CAD for diy projects isn’t for me. I learned technical drawing in the apprentice school & was around when CAD arrived, it’s all about production.

I used this software which has the components already made and you place each icon to make your system. It was very helpful to make a simple and professional looking solar line drawing.

They make software for larger scale solar industry needs... but very adaptable to a single homeowner.

I hope this helps!

where did you get the shapes?
Mostly from web catalogs of manufacturers / sellers - Victron for example, have high quality pictures for every product. What I do is to "equalize" the sizes (GIMP, about 1000 - 1600 pixels for a long side) and to add so called "glue points" in Draw for wires (called "connectors") to stick and follow in case I rearrange the diagram.

Yeah I like drawing my stuff by hand because back in the day that is how I learned to do it.
After everything is done it would be nice to put it into a better looking CAD file and print it out and hang it on the Wall in the Electrical room.

Do you know how much it woud cost for a project? I am a homeowner so I only have one project, or more if I move to the next house.

It depends. First of all, you need to check AHJ requirements. You can quickly find your AHJ here: https://ahjregistry.myorangebutton.com/#/ahj-search/

Web Solar is only a tool to draw the permit package (site plan, SLD, NEC calcs) without PE stamps (price is $20/month). In case you need a PE stamp, the cost would probably be more than $300 (you can check GreenLancer service).
