Where to buy cells?

I been reading threads on here over the past few years as my lead acid GC battery's have been reaching end of life. I seen many positive comments about dealing with Amy at Luyuan so I reached out to get a quote but unfortunately she couldn't ship to my address (Newfoundland, Canada). I also have read good things about 18650batterystore but they also dont provide a shipping option for my location.

Even though I haven't seen recent reviews of Exliporc I reached out anyhow because some of the old reviews I seen here seemed decent. The quote I received for Hthium cells from them seemed too good to be true so I am unsure if they are a legitimate option. I also priced some cells from gobelpower.com which werent quite as cheap as at Exliporc but seemed reasonable.

Any advice on where I can source decent cells or feedback on the suppliers I have already contacted would be greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions for off the shelf options that are reliable and priced well? Most I have seen would run me about $2500 for something around 25.6 volt and 300ah.

The prices I've been quoted for cells to get a similar capacity are between $700 and $900 for cells. I figure another $250 for bms and busbars and about $150 for the case if I use some materials I have from other projects.

I haven't built a battery before so I may very well be missing something but my reasoning was that it would be saving me about half from the other options I've seen.

DIY is probably closer to 60% of the cost of an off-the-shelf system. There are other advantages to DIY such as smaller footprint, higher capacity, greater control, etc.

But if you can't get cells shipped to you then off-the-shelf may be your only option.

Try Docan's US warehouse. Maybe they can ship to your location when the China-based sellers can't. Docan has mixed reviews on the forum, so keep that in mind.

16s system 280 AH, 15kWh for $2400 including shipping is hard to beat.

Gobel Power GP-SR1-PC200 Standard 51.2V 280Ah 15kWh LiFePO4 Server Rack Battery

You can get 280Ah cells from Gobel USA stock for $1500 including shipping. Depending on how handy you are a BMS and a box won't cost $900 additional. But a pre-built being ready to go is certainly worth something.

I appreciate the suggestions SolarGuppy but none of those Amazon links are able to be shipped to where I live.

I'm hoping Gobel Power might pull through for me but I'm still waiting for them to reply to me on if they can ship to my location.

If you give a general location that would be helpful for others to make relevant suggestions

Your location is not listed in the "Location" info on the left of each post is what I was referring too.

Are there not freight forwarders in VT or ME into Canada? I'm not familiar with how amazon works for your area or is their also import taxes / duties involved?

I changed to amazon.ca and I was able to find one I listed, you can just use the names in the links and search that way

I didn't notice the option to set location info, thanks for the heads up.

It's starting to seem like there may be limited shipping company's willing to ship batteries to the island.

Yes, that would seem like a hard issue to deal with, good luck on your search!

Does Amazon qualify as reliable? The #3 link claims their battery can charge at -4F temperature (no mention of integrated heating).

The topic was best price for a battery, no requirement for low temperature from the OP, as to the listings, it was meant to show that DYI pricing benefit / price differential has evaporated when you can get finished plug and play for similar pricing, I spent all of 5 minutes just a quick look for examples.

Their claim of low-temp charging seems completely bogus. Why would you trust this vendor?

One can say that about just about any battery seller, cells or otherwise. I wasn't recommencing any of the links, one must do their own research and at least when you buy from amazon, you can have some level of protection on a sale. Bottom line is DYI batteries are no longer the cost savings they once were and links show prices to support that statement.

It may make sense to build for a large 48V system but no so sure for smaller systems. I'm running 4 100Ah LiFePo4 that ran me $175/ea in 2S2P for 24V. Going to add 2 more so I'll have system like the OP wanted (24V 300Ah) for $700. Pricing cells from US distributors the going price seems to be around $47 for a 105Ah EVE cell. That's $1,128 in just the cells, never mind BMS, bus bars, etc.

So far with 4 batteries I've had no balancing issues. If that changed going to 6 even adding some balancers it's still way under the $1,128 price tag. Funny as I'm writing this I got an email for the batteries for $169/ea shipped. Going to have to order them up now.

I love doing DYI stuff but not when it's going to cost substantially more than prebuilt.

Check With CurrentConnected.com. They're good about going the extra mile for customer service.

@HighTechLab, can you ship to Newfoundland, Canada?
Depends on a case-by-case basis, especially with Lithium batteries, as the DOT considers them hazardous goods. Best is to shoot over an email and our shipping team can verify what it would take.

Unless someone has actually seen these cells I would assume its grade B Hithium like what Docan is selling.

I have had good luck with sunfunkits, I had an issue with help from the BMS on my 48v build but they finally showed how to fix my issues in a youtube video so I think they are good option.

Maybe you can do SEMI DIY with there 24v battery:

https://www.sunfunkits.com/product/142/sfk-v5-24-volt-150ah-deluxe-heated-lfp-kit-w-150ah-rept-cells 2 of these would make a 300AH 24v

under $2000.00 before shipping but it has features most other batteries don't like you can keep your battery warm at idle. There is a Canadian Rollin2vids youtube guy that has reviewed there stuff and it may work well for you in colder climate.

I just checked docan , they seem to have decent prices on cells right now. Not sure how much shipping would be to Canada though.
