Where to Source Cells w/ Tariffs now

Many vendors raised their existing stock prices for additional profits at this time on existing inventory. While this is common when things cost more it doesn't make it right to price gouge your customer. I will remember the ones that tried this on me. So the best thing that could happen would be a drop in demand. China would then have to lower the tariffs they charge us which will in turn would lower our tariffs to them which would adjust prices and raise demand again. While I don't like paying more for things, I don't like our country being taken advantage of. There is a silver lining to all of this and it is called DIY. You can buy a 200 amp BMS, EVE 280 or MB31 cells and fab your own box or buy a DIY kit for less than or close to the retail price we were paying for Name brand 15k batteries before tarrifs. Times like these make DIY the thing to do .

You might want to check the prices and tariffs on those eve280 and MB31 cells. US stock of MB31 has gone from $80 to $135. We've yet to see the tariffs actually charged on these cells, but reportedly it will be 175%, assuming they aren't raised again during the 3 month delivery delay.

Typical prices for MB31 are $40 on a slow boat. 175% of that is $75, so expect to pay total $110 per cell total.

Suddenly the $135 for US stock doesn't feel that bad.

I think most people will just not do these projects and find something else to fill their time with.

These tariffs are high enough with no alternative supplier to just make the projects not worthwhile anymore. I expect to see ESS projects grind to a halt.

I've saved $1,770 on the equipment purchased 6 months ago, $470 on a single piece purchased just 3 weeks ago! At least, that's what I shared with the Boss Lady ( my better half). She's used that "saved" one plenty of times before, figured it was my turn to use it!

You can still source the cells direct from China, and pay a bit more now, to save money compared to buying prebuilt.

A power pro indoor is currently $3700 on SS website. 16 cells at $135ea is $2160, add in $600 for a fancy case and you're still saving a grand.

The media is reporting 175% tariff, but I don't know how to confirm that other than to just order some and see what customs are charged to me. No thank you. Diy will always beat pre built because the same tariffs will cause similar increases in pre-built.

Does ordering DDP put all the tariffs risk in the sender? I am very curious how this works.

When I get a quote on Alibaba from my source, DDP includes the tariff/customs and shipping.

My suspicion is containers are being shipped through another country on the way to the US which would fall under the 10% tariffs even cheaper then the Biden administration placed on Lithium. The last set I got in late March showed up all the markings on the boxes were removed that indicated what was in the box.

Which is the only quantifiable reality that matters...ie. real time data that nobody has (somehow) ever had a provable grasp on since first supercomputers and then AI claimed to know everything 'relevant' that we would ever need to know in real time. Where things come from matters.
How everything truly moves around and gets to where it is going is not rocket science anymore; it's just not talked about when solutions involving origin are brought forward for obvious reasons.

My biggest fear is you pay DDP, order placed, but once arrived they are held at port for a kings ransom of the current tariff of the day.

With things still so fast paced and moving around tweet by executive tweet, it hard telling what a tariff will be today, or while the order is on the ship half way across the pond.

I’m in the same boat, paid DDP April 3rd for cells and an 8s case, time will tell what happens. . .
