Why are Chinese batteries sold in the UK so expensive still.

A small group of friends built a DIY solar system each between 6-8KW and with 10KW of battery storage each using pylontech US 5000 batteries, Cost was about £6k for each of us give or take a few bob.
I recently expanded by batteries to just under 25KW with another 3 batteries, which retail at £900 each plus vat, but I was able to escape the VAT as signed a "contractor install " contract with the company selling the stock.
However although we know some batteries like FOX are a bit cheaper and some pro's have made some cracking DIY batteries, why is it that in the UK battery prices are being held up very artificially high.
As a example my friend is in Thailand right now and including postage and local taxes can buy two of these us5000 pylontech batteries for £840 .
Yep bit heavy in the suitcase I know ?? ..but something clearly amiss, and the purchasing company says it "cannot supply UK"????, with no reason given.
One of the main reasons uk solar so expensive.
Appreciate any replies.

I would guess the reason is because people will still buy them, so the vendors don’t need to drop their prices. The market is used to that price level, maybe they have passed on some of the drop in raw cell prices by lowering their prices a bit and they can sell heaps of them at that price, so why would they charge less?

In Asia, where your comparative price comes from, doubtless the competition is much fiercer.

Many thanks Sonne, might be UK demand, but I believe its something else ...... Alibarba were selling them to
South America for £450 equiv each including shipping and taxes, but stated they would not ship to EU or UK.
I think its clear "price gouging", and trying to find the source. Sent few notes asking to UK wholesalers but got no reply.
Sorting out an issue like this would revolutionise UK solar market, as panels are now sub £80 each but the major fly is the battery prices which it shouldn't be.

I think the uk diy market is only just getting going way behind a lot of other countries on top of that the last few years haven't been smooth sailing supply chain wise, and add a pinch of rip off Britain,I'm predicting higher demand will lead to more competitive pricing.

Thanks to your nice people in your country.
This come from the brexit .
Normal you had open systeem on the eu and no tax on it.
Open market for eu country.
After stap out this the problem you have now.
No open trade systeem so people can ask what it like to no open market .

Same in Canada.
My son works very close to the US border so I I think I will ask him to run into the USA buy me some.
What pisses me off the most is the difference from Amazon in the USA and then Canada.
And the shitty selection of everything on Amazon.ca.
I think its intentional to reduce choices and increase prices sometimes.

Let me ask you chum...
Is it cheaper to go to France and shop maybe?

I’m in Thailand and yeah, prices are lower here. I was quoted two Pylontech US2000 batteries for $1300 - half the price I’ve seen in the U.S. We can get stuff shipped straight from China with no tariffs.

We have free trade with the USA but its not really free trade because the rules change with each new president
Canada should have tried to join the EU decades ago.
Joined the common currency the whole deal ( if you would let us in that is... Plenty of things we do you don't like )

I import parts from Thailand because even with the postage costs its cheaper to buy exactly the same Honda part...
Cheaper by a very wide margin in fact....

It can be done.
Just ask for it.
Than again i think it will be no thanks to the usa .
Usa do not like the EU .
Its a massive systeem that is setup against usa trade systeem.
So we do not need usa for stuf and more
Really usa gone be some day outdated.
You see it with the petrol dollar that is no more.
That country that use it go to brick new cash or the euro coin.

Usa massive that it can not fail.
It gone fail thanks to it.

Too many companies and wealthy people in Canada would fight it.
It would require a significant shift in our economy.

And people would be afraid of how this would effect our relationships with the USA.

We could go the other way and fully integrate into the US economy but then we would have to give up a lot of things and fully Americanize our society.

There simply is no stability in our day and age.

Eva lid .

See link.

I'm not so sure they are expensive here in UK...

14.3kWh for 1300 GBP all-in, less VAT = £1083 = $1375 . That's better value than the Pylontechs IMHO.

EVE LF280K cells for 46 GBP each

Not sure where you're getting panels from but most, top range, 430W+ panels are <£60 in UK.

This is what we have....
Not exactly what I want.
I would like to see a completely open boarder with the EU.
Then we could get some more gypsies to come over and pan handle..... NO
we already have that lol.

Free moment people and commerce and joining the unified currency, thats what we need.
Everything those Silly Englishmen blew it.
