So I have bought wills book and gone to his site to duplicate his 400 watt system. I also have a 2000watt inverter charger from Renogy( everything I have is from Renogy)
the question I have is in his diagram he states
“Size wires to inverter “
The Renogy manual states a
200 amp breaker and 2/0 cable.
so as per diagram is it only the
“Solar batter positive and the solar battery negative “
That has to be 2/0 as well as the short cable from negative buss bar to inverter.
Then every other cable is 4gauge.
I know this is simple stuff for you guys but sadly not me.
thanks in advance.

The connections between the battery and inverter should be sized for 200 amp draw to match your inverter (I assume 12 volts).

10 gauge from panels to charge controller. This is a standard size.

The rest of the wiring should be sized to handle the output of the charge controller. 4 gauge might be overkill depending on the solar charge controller.

Thanks for the quick response. I have the 50amp dc-dc charger controller. Will loved it so I went ahead and bought it.
I think he suggests 4gauge in his drawing. So yes, only the wires going to inverter is 2/0?

Only the wires between the battery and the inverter need to be the larger gauge, yes.
4 gauge should be very adequate for a 50 amp charger.

Thanks for all your help folks. Going to post a pic to show what I have done so far. Any glaring problems let me know. I used 4 gauge and 2/0. I will tidy all the wires up once I am sure it works. Still have the wires from starter battery to do.
let me k ow your thoughts please.
