Thinking about mounting some small panels to my storage building roof. I have some Z brackets. But they only do a 1" lift. What is the minimal separation I need to get decent performance with the panels in the hot summer sun?

I recall reading somewhere 3-4”. It may have been in a panel spec/install sheet. Makes sense.

I reviewed the installation instructions for my Mission Solar 320 watt panels. Nowhere does it specify a standoff distance. However, it does specify a temperature operating range. As long as your panels have sufficient air space to keep the panel within that range, you're probably OK. Almost every Z bracket I looked at provides a similar standoff distance. A rail system may or may not provide a greater standoff distance.
