I don’t know how I missed this UPS porn thread. I have been messing with APC UPSverters and have learned a few expensive things:
* Many consumer grade UPSs are modified sine. You have to research the model number to determine. Many will have a distortion warning molded into the case.
* The...
50% of the people are highly educated but brainwashed. They see clearly but refuse to acknowledge. My daughter went through the university system hivemind, plus a Disney internship, and by the time she received her masters was fully indoctrinated. Managed to do that to what was a strong-willed...
Both party establishment are traitors and only want control regardless of how it hurts the USA. Just look at the latest foreign aid package. I would rather have MAGA clean house from the inside.
The opposite extreme, Libertarians are too pure and not willing to bloody a few noses to implement...
Kudos for taking the plunge. My $0.02 USD:
That's not much solar or battery to run an inverter. I’d focus on finding 12V equipment that will run for much longer.
Are the Christmas lights LED? Attempt to separate into 12VDC modules.
Play with alternate means of supplemental power generation to...
Aristotle: nature abhors a vacuum. Any exhaust gas will easily get replaced via every small opening in the garage.
I have toyed with the idea of using a gas water heater, with the burner removed, as both a liquid-dampened muffler and source of hot water. Around 50% of the usable fuel energy is...
On my 48V UPSverter I also precharge with a 60W incandescent light bulb. It will light for a good 2-3 seconds as the 3kva UPS caps are pretty big.
In my opinion an incandescent bulb is the perfect variable-resistance load, plus includes visual indication. The typical resistance when off is 24...
My 12V cooling fan is a computer case “silent fan” I mounted on an repurposed tablet arm. The fan puts out way more air with less noise than a cheap small 120V fan, and the flexible arm lets me direct air wherever I need it.
Edit to add the Noctua 140mm nameplate pic, please ignore the dust...
The OP also wanted the capability to heat the basement. Technically the dehumidifier will not "waste" energy because inefficiency will be converted into usable BTU's. The batteries and inverter will also dump usable BTU's into the basement.
Great project! The HiQ batteries seem too good to be true, please keep us posted. Edit: my cart draws ~130A while accelerating or climbing hills. the battery 100A max discharge may pose a problem.
Also have a Yamaha AC motor cart where the battery set powers my 48V UPSverter and back-feeds my...
I would get a nominal amount of batteries (~5kwh) to run the home, especially while sleeping. A golf cart does just fine. Add a small amount of solar (~400w) to extend the runtime.
Then I would use the generator to run the AC units and charge the batteries. Saves gas, plus I can't stand the...
Thankfully did not lose power, overnight low was +14F in hot Houston.
I guess the 2021 Houston freeze was a wakeup call and the power plants were prepared this time. My local power plant rarely goes down, however when we have a hurricane and other plants go down, our power plant load shares and...
I just witnessed a car accident where they suspect was caused by the road condition. They are investigating whether it was the drivers fault or the asphalt.
I use a 100W incandescent (not LED or fluorescent) light bulb. When the bulb stops glowing the caps are charged.
Amazing how long my 48V 2500W UPS can light that bulb.
This topic should go under Renewable Energy Sources however its neither hydroelectric nor wind. The system operates from the charge in rain droplets, not the mechanical energy of them falling. Mentioned 50 watts/M2. or about a third the output of a solar panel. Also looks easy to DIY.
Could...
If you are going to create a battery backup system, might as well go 2000+ watts and power other critical items in the house. Effort will be the same and won't be that much more expensive. Can back-feed your breaker panel.
Otherwise if you really want to power just one fan, where is the firebox...
That is the perfect description of Gen. Mark Milley. He promised the Chinese advance warning of a pending attack. Leaving all our equipment behind in the Afghanistan withdrawal.
