    No worries, all’s well
  • Post in thread: Schneider xw pro 6848 not powering up with eg4 lithium battery

Just spit-balling here so be gentle. What has not been eliminated is the battery cabinet/bus bars. Could the bus bars have a break or some other issue to cause a drop in voltage when a load is applied? Would it be possible to connect your lithium battery (that starts the inverter) to the bus...

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Enphase support is bad or they didn’t want to work with me. More like their product line could not support my requirements at a reasonable (to me) cost. Basically they said M-series equipment talks to M-series inverters and Envoy/Envoy-S, IQ-series equipment only...

Replacement 5 panels are each 1.5 inches wider and 18 inches longer. My restriction on the garage is width so these will fit. 6th panel will be installed on a west facing rooftop. I did run a couple of scenarios with just Enphase to see what the cost would be. First option was to replace...
  • Post in thread: Can you comission the Enphase M215 without that envoy thing?

Should work without an envoy. The envoy does the monitoring/reporting and allows the installers toolkit to load different profiles. i Have 20 M215’s from 2012, when I switched from an Envoy to an Envoy-S in 2018 I ran the panels for two days without an Envoy. Worked fine, just no reporting. My...

Good idea, first contact was when they recommended the relay instead of the MID. I did find the relay, it’s only sold in 50hz markets and supports 1-3 phase. Too bad, WAY cheaper than the switch if you only need to disconnect from grid. I will see what support says about adding just the Encharge...

@Ampster please be critical, this is going in my attached garage so I want to be cautious and over spec every thing. My M215’s are from 2012 so they are binary, on or off. I have 20 M215’s paired with CS 250w panels. On a good day I can get about 3.8kw peak output. The highest monthly output...

Understood and I agree, but, don’t the capacitors require a huge amount of amps to initially charge? Could be just enough impedance to hamper startup. Again beginner, opinions worth the price charged.

@svetz Thank you for the response! After reading @GXMnow and @Ampster (and yours) threads, I have made a decision on the direction to take. A lot of holes but it’s an iterative process. AC-couple current Enphase system with 6-8kW GT inverter. Inverter wish list: grid assist, grid forming...
  • Post in thread: Calculate Battery Amp Hours

total Newbie here so go easy if this is a stupid question. I am totally confused by the term ‘usable capacity’. if I am trying to determine what size battery is required for my system, how do I go about that? If I need 7 KWh of energy to keep the house running from dusk to dawn (not pulling...
  • Post in thread: Enphase Envoy needed?

The reasons you need an envoy are to load profiles, monitor system, reporting, and some diagnostics. Not needed to use M series MI’s. If all 4 M215s were working and stopped, check your AC wiring from the breaker back to M215s. If they don’t see the sine wave they will not turn on. eBay has a...

Located in Tri-valley east of San Francisco. In 2012 we self-installed an Enphase system comprised of 20 250w Canadian Solar panels, 20 M215 GT inverters (2012 vintage so no throttling, on/off only), and an Envoy. In 2018 we upgraded our Envoy to an Envoy-S (with combiner box)and added a 1.2Kw...
  • Post in thread: Newbie Needing Advice and Counsel

Hello from Northern California, Tri-Valley area where it’s a beautiful, cloud free day with early summer temperatures - still no rain?. In 2012 I installed an Enphase system I purchased online. Ten Canadian Solar 250w panels, 10 M215 grid tied inverters, and an Envoy. In 2018 I added another...
  • Post in thread: Calculate Battery Amp Hours

Thank you! Seems like most use just the full capacity which is not totally usable. How did you arrive at 90% usable? Not questioning, just trying to understand.
  • Post in thread: 280Ah Battery, Just Beginning

Getting ready to start a 280AH 48vdc battery build. Batteries have been ordered from Docan, JK-B2A24S20P BMS from Hankzor. Nothing else has been ordered/purchased. On to the list, what was forgotten, what is not needed, alternatives? This will be connected to an AC-Coupled (to 4kw Enphade M215...

After multiple calls to Enphase support they have confirmed no backwards compatibility from IQ to previous versions. In effect you will either have two separate systems or completely replace existing. Moving on, we have decided on the following: 1. Move 5 garage panels (Enphase M215) to less...

Hopefully a 14KWh battery will get us through the night. Wife has agreed to limit water/dryer use and to leave the water heater in heatpump mode.
  • Post in thread: 280Ah Battery, Just Beginning

Batteries (16 LF280N) have shipped - only 30-40 days to go! Advice/opinion on capacity testing: 1. Don’t worry about it, top balance, build battery and discharge/charge thru BMS monitoring cells. 2. Capacity test each cell prior to build. On compression, to compress or not. My plan is to...

Good idea on sealing the backer board, had not considered that. Yes, a lot of the components I have looked at are only rated to 32 volts, really have to dig finding 60vdc.
  • Post in thread: In A Pickle, Need Options

my existing panels are CS250W connected to M215 MI. During best conditions I am generating between 206-214W per panel. M215 is only rated to 215W and will clip at 225W. After 9+ yrs they are performing quite well. I do clean them every spring but wife says I have to curtail my rooftop...
