Hi All
I have a solar system charging 8s 24V 100Ah battery pack - EPever 50A Mppt and a Smart BMS. I find the app Xiaoxiang showing different levels of charge than the EPever system.
When I arrive home - sun is already down - I check the app on my phone and it states 100% charge. Great! - Then...
As above - I have a solar setup on a barge in Ireland, but I need additional energy input in winter/rainy periods - I have the generator but I need to push in as many Amps as I can in as short a time - 3C cells capabilities - the limit I guess is the generator?
Thanks in anticipation
SLA battery that came with the Barge - I imagine it's in the 100-150Ah range - also, I'm unsure as to what the designated use is - like a start or deep cycle, but I imagine with the duty cycle of bow thruster work it's rarely under too much stress?
I don't mind the PWM controller, it's proven tech. I'm not looking for bang for buck here, the duty cycle will be low for the entire system - so price is the issue - Also, I'm not strictly "Marine" being in fresh water so that concern isn't a major factor? When I'm underway and the bow thruster...
Hi Steve - I gave a distributor a call in the UK - they are rough quoting around 1700 pounds sterling...so...not cheap. I really like the idea though, and I imagine there are cheaper versions that do the same thing - thanks for the heads up.
Cheers
Alistair
Hi,
I have just bought a barge as a live aboard solution and I am busy fitting it out. It was a new build barge, termed a sail away - empty but powered and steering fitted. I live in Ireland where winter days are short and solar is not really capable of providing the power needed in those...
Hi Colm - I'm also in Ireland - also 24V system - LiFePO4 for a liveaboard barge. Also new at this so I'm still collecting components...Most of them on order - just the panels to get - I'm looking at 4 x Trina 275W Split cell - still to pull the trigger on those...

So, a change of plan - I'm going to ignore the additional 175A alternator on the engine...I'll spend some money instead on diesel generator. That way I can make 220v for my appliances and run a normal battery charger to top up th battery bank when solar isn't available? This way I avoid clocking...
Thanks for your input. I'd be inclined to go with your first option. Unless I could find the parts necessary to change 12v to 24v on the alternator. As you said, I still need a smart charger in any event.
Hi
So, I have a bow thruster fitted to the barge - powered by 12V battery in the bow - charged via the engine alternator...
I also have my water tank forward in the bow and I was wondering...Could I use the 12V battery of the Bow thruster to power the water pump? Obviously, yes - but I do not...
Thanks Steve - so I have 4 x Trina Split panels 275 watt - Epever 50A Mppt solar charge controller - Smart 8s BMS - Winston LFP100AHA TALL cell Battery made up of 8 cell pack - Documents data sheet: https://files.ev-power.eu/inc/_doc/attach/StoItem/1580/GWL-Winston-LFP100AHA_TALL.pdf
Inverter is...
Increasing a battery bank capacity - what are the ways? I have a Solar system - off grid on a barge; 4 x 275 watt panels -2 in series and then paralleled into an EPever Charge controller - a 24 volt battery bank of 8 x 3.2 V LifePO 100 A/h. BMS is a SMART controller off Aliexpress - I am...
Thanks for the link, Steve - That sounds like the business!! I wish I'd known this before purchasing my inverter - How much do these run at? I may even sell on this one if the price is reasonable?
Cheers Alistair
