I've read a bit about people getting C/AFCI+GFCI breaker trips in their main panel when they are using a Reliance Controls manual transfer switch (MTS). I understand that this has something to do with neutral switching and/or neutral+ground bonding issues. Apparently the main panel breakers...
Thanks for the response. Was it reasonably easy to set up? Given how simple my needs are (no scheduling, no solar, no generator, etc.) I hoping to find something that doesn't require me to be an expert and go through 1000 menu settings just to get it operating in the simple manner that I need...
Hello, I don't know the answer to your question, but would you mind sharing which Growatt inverter you have? Is it the 6000TL-X?
Was it pretty simple to set everything up? I'm looking at a battery pack + inverter, but no solar, no batteries, no scheduling, etc. -- literally just the battery...
Quick question about the nuisance trip on c/afci + gfci circuits when switching from LINE to GEN. Does that happen b/c of something going on in the Delta Pro? Does the Delta Pro inverter bond neutral & ground?
I'm thinking about doing a similar setup with a Reliance transfer switch, but...
Thanks for the response. I read your linked post about common neutrals and, to be honest, most of it was a bit above my head. As to option (3), if I purchase one of the higher end inverters with the neutrals that are permanently wired together internally, is there any danger or NEC violation...
Very helpful. Thank you! One quick follow up question: When there's a grid outage and your off-grid inverter switches from pass-through mode to battery mode, how fast is the changeover? And is the changeover speed dictated solely by the inverter? Or does the manual transfer switch have some...
I'd been thinking about buying a Delta Pro and Smart Home Panel but decided against it b/c its not really compatible with a large (11-12 kW) professionally installed solar array that I'd like to have installed in a year or two.
Did lack of compatibility with large solar arrays dissuade you at...
I'm thinking about a very simple setup. A 120v Reliance Controls manual transfer switch that is powered by a battery system + inverter when in "GEN" mode. 10-15 kW of battery capacity, probably EG4.
All I need the inverter to do is keep the batteries charged and to output (up to ~3000W) to...
Increasingly frequent power outages have led me to decide that I need a backup power solution ASAP even though I won't be able to have solar panels installed for another year or two. I'd like to choose batteries + inverter now that will be usable with a future 11-12 kW professionally installed...
Can you tell me more about this setup? I just posted a new post on this forum, and your setup sounds like my option #3: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/best-options-for-getting-battery-backup-asap-probably-diy-while-planning-on-solar-panels-professionally-installed-in-1-2-years.53309/
Is it...
Say you have a Sol-Ark 15K doing 200amp pass-through from the grid to your 200amp main panel. Say you've got a battery backup system hooked up to it. And say you are charging your EV at, e.g., 7.2 kW.
Because the 15K is doing pass-through to the entire panel rather than to a critical loads...
Thanks for the input. I think your paragraph about "immediate A/B transfer between two non-synchronized AC sources" is may be the part that would be relevant to my concern. Would that apply if you are outputting from the inverter to a transfer switch using pass-through mode from the grid, and...
Thanks for the response. I guess some load shedding setup might work. I was mostly just seeking confirmation that if you're doing 200amp pass-through to your main panel, the default behavior of the inverter would be that batteries would take over for EVERYTHING in the main panel during a grid...
Thanks for the input. My plan was to do the same thing -- leave the circuits on GEN all the time. So when exactly is it that you get the trips? Only when you are switching between LINE and GEN?
Also, I haven't seen much discussion of the Reliance Controls Neutral Kit...
I see Fortress, HomeGrid, Signature Solar, and BigBattery getting mentioned a fair bit on this forum and other forums.
For larger capacities in the 15-25 kWh range, it looks like Fortress and HomeGrid are up in the range of $500-600 per kWh for just the battery and seem to have decent to good...
