Thanks! That is good to know! I only have the one GEL battery (I will check specs, but I think it is a 12V 200aH) so probably not enough to run the "granny flat" from, but good to know about the BMS!

Just new to this whole game (solar setups, and life really!) and I am looking for some help/guidance.
I have a 'hybrid' system (although it is running off-grid only) which is:
1. bunch of solar panels on the roof
2. Growatt SPF 5000 EW inverter
3. Taico TKPW5000 ( LiFePO4 51.2V 100Ah...
I have been looking through the forums for a similar answer, and I gave up and posted my own question:

I have googled heaps, and I think I understand (at least at a basic level) what the BMS does, however, is it always needed?
It looks like I need it for my LiFePO4 batteries, but do I need it for a GEL battery? Is it something I always need for any battery?
I have the Growatt SPF 5000...
I am having nothing but problems with this setup! I have the Growatt inverter, and the Taico battery with BMS. But the inverter doesn't want to see the BMS, neither does my laptop (with the Taico software).
Anyone got hints/tips to help out at all? I will include images, but I have power...
