  • Post in thread: Clean your terminals.

I know its been said before but cleaning your terminals can make a world of difference. I've been testing my 12v 4s 272ah Lishen pack and I had one cell that always was running 0.020-0.035v above or below @60A depending on if I'm discharging or charging. Now I had cleaned my terminals with a...
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

I don't think there is a max Ah. I know I can set a safety cutoff for ah into the battery. I will be testing it soon. SoundinSpirit, "Now I have them in parallel and on the RC charger again, set for LiPo which is 4.2 volts. Why the discrepancy?" From what i understand is if you use the lipo...
  • Post in thread: Smallish home backup system.

Yeah my math was off there a bit. 1200w for 5 hours will be 6000w hours. I have a wireless thermometer probe in every freezer and the fridge so I do have the ability to manually cycle them to perhaps extend the run time some there. Let me go back and break it down into watt hours, I may have...
  • Post in thread: I forgot to ground/earth my solar array... now how to fix it

This is what I'm referring to. https://diysolarforum.com/resources/grounding-made-simpler-part-3-solar-panels.160/ Part 3 gives the info on the solar panel to earth grounding.
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

Well its working so far. Time counter only goes to 999 and then resets it and the mah reading but other then that its all good. I have the parts for a better balance cable on the way also.

While I do tend to agree with your thinking, according to the guide and some other places. 1. NEC requires that any dc circuit that operates at 50V or higher must be bonded to ground. To determine Max voltage, the NEC uses 125% of VOC for the max voltage of a single panel...
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

I did, I used stainless nuts, washers and 25mm long set screws although 20mm or 16mm would have probably been better. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07957B3X4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
  • Post in thread: Smallish home backup system.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have purchased the Inverter, I did debate 12v or 24v for a while but I decided to stick with 12v for this even though the wire and amps at 12v are so high/big, So a 12v system it is for me. As for the numbers in watt hours yes if everything is running 100% of...
  • Post in thread: I forgot to ground/earth my solar array... now how to fix it

Update* I have managed to get another strand of 10awg PV wire from under the house to the panels in the conduit to use for earth/grounding. but had to pull a section of conduit under the house apart to do it. I have located the main ground of the house and it is also tied to the metal frame of...
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

yes assuming i make a set of balance leads so i can charge/balance it as a 4s pack I could charge them a bit faster which i still may do. But as of now I'm only going to charge as a 1s4p at 6a max.
  • Post in thread: [PSA] Make sure to properly prepare your connections to aluminium terminal posts in order to ensure low contact resistance.

I just made a post about this myself. Seems like a commonly overlooked detail that can make a world of difference. I used a green scotch bright on the terminals and busbars and clean them up after with cotton swabs and a bit of rubbing alcohol.
  • Post in thread: I forgot to ground/earth my solar array... now how to fix it

Yes 2 sets of 2 panels in series NOT in parallel. So 2 positives and 2 negatives and 2 charge controllers. My plan now is to run a extra 10awg wire from the junction box at the array to the houses grounding rod or the electric panel right above its grounding buss bar. From the junction box...

I haven't used anything yet but I'd use normal old dielectric grease.
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

I have a Hitec X1 AC Plus charger https://hitecrcd.com/files/X1_AC_Plus_manual_ver2.pdf It states that the LiFe charge profile is 3.3v nominal 3.6 max charge per cell. Cells being used are 272ah lishen cells x4. Will there be any real difference in a top balance to 3.6 vs 3.65?
  • Post in thread: I forgot to ground/earth my solar array... now how to fix it

Hi guys, I'm not having a good day here as I have somehow forgot to run a earth/ground for my solar array and not sure how I'm going to fix it and hoping I didn't mess up too bad here... I just got the system finally hooked up less then a week ago and it seems to be working so far so that's...
  • Post in thread: Smallish home backup system.

The plan/goal is to have enough Battery Backup to not have to fire up a generator for 12-24 hours. with intentions of adding some solar later to supplement the generator. I have a Honda 2000i generator (1600w con, 2000w surge) I can use for backup to charge batteries and or boost the Victron...
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the book is wrong there... its 6A or 50w max charge rate. So not as bad as 1A. I'd definitely be getting something faster if it was 1A haha.
  • Post in thread: Damage to cell terminal still safe?

I just got 4x 727ah Lishen cells and one terminal seems like they ran the tap a little deep cutting the threads and I can see copper in the bottom of the hole. Is this going to cause a problem?
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

Balance leads are the multi wire connector (5 wires for 4s) that lets the bms or charger in this case read the voltage each cell in the pack.
  • Post in thread: I forgot to ground/earth my solar array... now how to fix it

So does that mean this diagram is not correct? Solar panels and frame EGC all the way to the main grounding rod which in my case would be the one for the house since this system is plugged into the house and grounded threw the 120v plug thus effectively grounding everything into the same point...
  • Post in thread: Will my RC battery charger work for top balance?

Its the wire that is going into your 5 in 1 cell meter. Your rc charger should let you hook that plug plus the main pos and neg into the charger. Then you can use the balance charge function on the charger and it will monitor and regulate the amount of volts in each cell to keep the pack balanced.
  • Post in thread: Damage to cell terminal still safe?

It might be a 1/8-1/4 turn deeper if that, It sure looks like copper too me.
  • Post in thread: Lishen 272 Ah Top Balance and Capacity Test

How did you top balance? How long did you hold at 3.65 and what were the amps going in when you stopped? How long did you leave them connected in parallel before you disassembled and made them into the final pack? I think its best practice to leave them in parallel after top balancing for...
