  • Post in thread: BMS needed for Victron system?

I’m planning a 600ah/24V system right now. Everything will be Victron (batteries are Sinopoly though). I see conflicting opinions on using a BMS, especially with such a large battery bank (low voltage cutoff relay is a challenge). Do you think the Victron setup requires it? 2 multipluses, 2...

(Crossposted, seems more fitting here) I’m planning a 600ah/24V system right now. Everything will be Victron (batteries are Sinopoly though). Which Orion are you using? What type of loads are you driving with it?

I tried the crimp supply ones but they sent me 3/8" instead of 5/8". Hopefully they actually have the 5/8. These are hard to come by! Thanks everyone.

5/8inch at any AWG size seems hard to come by. If Crimp Supply fails I did find 5/8 8AWG at Grainger and I will do exactly that! $2.30 per terminal (ouch!). https://www.grainger.com/product/BURNDY-Ring-Terminal-30XT39
  • Post in thread: 2P4S or 4S2P and why?

I think it’s the disconnect part that is discouraging me. My inverters can pull 200A at 24v - I don’t trust a $50 BMS in the middle of that flow for the long haul. And interfacing an actuator has challenges also (like inrush current welding it shut).

how would you handle 200A with a BMS? Seems like an actuator is the best path if you have one.
  • Post in thread: BMS needed for Victron system?

Yeah, I saw the latest one that Will reviewed, it looked pretty nice feature-wise. But the wiring itself seemed a little suspect - and I'm betting it will have the same MOSFET issue that the Victron battery protect has (can only flow one direction without risk of melting/fire). I may get that...

Anyone have a source for lugs that have large diameters but are for smaller wires? I would like to use lugs for my BMS but I can't seem to find any for the 14mm bolts on my 300AH Sinopoly cells. The best I could find was 1/2 inch lugs with 8AWG wire. thanks!
  • Post in thread: 2P8S Connect strategy

My weakest cell is 60mV under the top cell with the pack at rest after discharging about 70% from top balance. When under a .2C load (around 65 amps) the difference grows to around 250mV (2.970 vs around 3.220 volts for the other cells). This is the first pack I have ever built/balanced, but...
  • Post in thread: 2P8S Connect strategy

I kept pushing the load and that cell dropped out pretty fast. I'm going to put these aside for now and test the other 8 pack and see where I stand with all 16. If this once cell ends up being the outlier I will probably pair it with a strong cell as suggested and keep an eye on it. Thanks...
  • Post in thread: BIM in big Diesel Pusher

I have a large DP that has a battery isolation manager (connects chassis batteries to house batteries under certain conditions). I'm in the midst of installing a 24 volt solar system and will have a Victron 24-12volt Orion DC-DC converter for the 12 volt stuff. It seems that the BIM would be...
  • Post in thread: 2P8S Connect strategy

I have 16 300AH Sinopoly cells that I'm building into a 2P8S configuration. So far a couple cells are testing weaker than the others. Would you put the weak cells together in a pair so you could keep an eye on them with the 8S BMS or would you pair each with a stronger cell so it can help keep...

Thanks guys! Just to close this thread, Crimp Supply finally came through with the right item and I'm good to go.
