Sent the following to MPP Solar, has anyone else had this problem with the PIP-5048GK? No idea what caused it.
Regarding the PIP-5048GK that I bought last year, the unit is no longer working:
It's only been used for perhaps 100 or 200 hours since I bought it (it's just for back up power. Most...
For those who have the time:
https://www.siliconchip.com.au/Issue/2012/July/Soft+Starter+For+Power+Tools
This uses a 10 ohm NTC instead of an outright resistor.
I noticed that "soft starter" on ebay has some ~$375 chinese units (I don't know anything about these.)...
Hi all
I bought a "KRXNY" brand 24v 3500w inverter and it works fine.
I'm thinking of buying the 500w equivalent: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113636746545 to power a constant load of ~95 watts 0.6 amps (~0.6 power factor).
I'm wondering if its fan is likely to run (hopefully not at all) with...
Looking for a good value 48v dc > 240v ac 50hz 'pure' sinewave inverter (no need for charger/mppt/backfeed).
Has anyone tried this one? -

Don't really need a beefy low frequency type.
What are common...
Hi Batonage
Out of interest, what unit did you replace your PIP5048GK with?
The reason I ask is because my PIP5048GK reports fault 51, doesn't produce AC and I don't know why. I've hardly used it any never thrashed it.
Thanks
This guy mentions earthing issues with cheap inverters whose designers didn't really include consideration for it in their design:
The comments in this video discuss some good points.
What I took away from it was:
- Don't share a ground to neutral link (eg. in mains powerboard) with another...
So I bought the 24v version of this KRXNY 3500w inverter:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114690705567
I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience to share regarding this particular model?
It ran a 1950w heatgun for an hour (then batteries were flat) no problem.
It hardly got warm at all. From...
Don't suppose it is started manually every time it starts?
If so, might get away with an inverter that soft-starts when it starts up.
A spare variac might be handy for a short term solution?
Don't know if you can still get the soft-start kits that put the load through a 10-15 ohm resistor for...
https://diysolarforum.com/threads/ground-neutral-bonding-the-inverter-gfci-question.43849/
The video in this linked thread shows that grounding the output made the 'low voltage' battery in fact high voltage, capable of pushing plenty of current, creating a situation where there would in fact...
Contrary to the suggestion of my previous comment, a soft-starter could be automatic if put in-line before the motor.
I guess: inverter > timer > soft starter > motor.
Hopefully the inverter can cope with it as is.
Hi Fgabriel,
The solution to my problem was that I bought a replacement board from MPP Solar in Taiwan.
The fault was never diagnosed. I still have the original board.
Interestingly enough, the new board always starts properly (whereas the old one would sometimes die just as it was counting...
I've decided to get a 12v DC E27 lamp (ebay 363861186585) and a constant current / constant voltage module (ebay 354644927748) for a dimmable light.
I will put the module in its own box, give it a DC input socket and replace the constant current trimpot with a panel mount one (ebay...
Regarding measurement of parasitic 'off' load from the EB70 while it's waiting to be turned on (since the battery can't be isolated), I fully charged it, left it for a month (4 weeks to the day), and to top the battery off, it only pulled 1 watt hour from the mains, so I can confidently say it...
I guess it shouldn't make any difference with these small amounts of power, but is it a split phase inverter?
This came to mind when I was reading this thread:
