JK BMS CAN bus comms now possible for inverters that support Goodwe and Pylontech batteries

To be honest I just took a fresh clone of the repo this time. Everything is default at the moment.

JK BMS CAN bus comms now possible for inverters that support Goodwe and Pylontech batteries

Confirmed working on Solis! Specifically the RHI-3.6K-48ES-5G. I had to switch to a different CAN transceiver (TI SN65HVD230). Something about the Solis and many other newer inverters only accepting the 3.3V CAN and not the 5V CAN of the TJA1050. I think Uksa007 also mentioned that he had...

Growatt SPF 5000 ES short circuit and replacement inverter suggestions (UK)

Now thinking of getting the Solis S5-EH1P3.6K-L as there's a great deal on a 2nd hand inverter on eBay. I don't mind not having a warranty if it's cheap. 3.6kW is actually fine since I rarely go over that. Only thing is the seller doesn't think he can provide the original connectors so I might...

Growatt SPF 5000 ES short circuit and replacement inverter suggestions (UK)

Fair enough but if my MOSFETs have gone into short circuit and others are reporting the same as well as huge sparks then it seems pretty dangerous to me. Enough to stay away from. Would be scary if my BMS hadn't quickly detected the short circuit and cut power.

Growatt SPF 5000 ES short circuit and replacement inverter suggestions (UK)

No direct anti-DIY language in there. Looks good. Thanks. Where did you source your Deye inverters from? By the way, saw your video on exploding inverters. That's scary... It's good you didn't give into the sunk cost fallacy and decided to replace the lot of them. The Deye's look like they are...

Growatt SPF 5000 ES short circuit and replacement inverter suggestions (UK)

Thinking of getting a Sunsynk but just looked at their warranty page (because I do not want a product that I can't ever claim on the warranty) and they ask if the unit has been installed by a qualified engineer. Is there anyway around this sort of thing? Curious how DIYers are approaching the...

Growatt SPF 5000 ES short circuit and replacement inverter suggestions (UK)

If nothing else this post can serve as another data point as why not to buy another Growatt inverter, in particular the SPF 5000 ES... For seemingly no reason my JK BMS triggered the short circuit protection alarm but the inverter seemed OK other than the fact that it had switched from battery...

JK BMS issues (suspect current sensor faulty) for 48V inverter setup

Hello, I've been running a DIY battery storage system (with the main intension of timeshifting grid consumption) for approximately 1 year with the following components: - JK BMS B2A20S20P - EVE 280Ah Cells (Grade B from Fogstar in the UK) - Growatt SPF5000ES - 3kWp solar (10 panels 1 string -...

Can I Automatically Charge the Battery? Growatt SPF5000

I have done it though. Just need to know the correct Modbus commands. Granted it's not obvious though but I have figured it out. Surely if the inverter can charge the battery from AC at up to 90A then this is preferable to buying more equipment? Thanks to AC charging at night my electricity...

Can I Automatically Charge the Battery? Growatt SPF5000

Yes you can. It took me a while to figure it out but I only recently got it working by using a protocol called Modbus over RS485. Essentially each setting on the inverter maps to a register which can be programmatically set by a computer or a device such as a Raspberry Pi or ESP32. I have a...

    Growatt/Shinephone app timeout issue

I'm also experiencing this quite frequently. I think the Growatt servers are constantly overloaded and they haven't kept up with demand. I'm switching to using the RS485/modbus port. This is already working great for controlling the inverter but I am planning on hooking the statistics up to...

JK BMS CAN bus comms now possible for inverters that support Goodwe and Pylontech batteries

It's the full 52V on that pin. Be careful! If it accidentally touches the digital pins it'll surely fry something. I'm surprised they even made this decision to have a high voltage on such a tiny pin. You could use a step down DC-to-DC converter from AliExpress or borrow a USB port from a...

JK BMS CAN bus comms now possible for inverters that support Goodwe and Pylontech batteries

This is excellent. Will definitely buy you a beer. About to buy a B2A20S20P from Ali Express with "Heat and CAN" but only because I want the heat function. Just to confirm though, the presence of the CAN port on the BMS doesn't stop the RS485 port from working with this does it?

UK - About to purchase LiFePO4 cells for home battery + Inverter/BMS advice

So has anyone figured out export/import control with the Growatt? I want to be able to tell the inverter when to charge the batteries and when to discharge and also be able to control how much charge is held in reserve. Is this even possible? Thinking along the lines of a Raspberry Pi sending...

UK - About to purchase LiFePO4 cells for home battery + Inverter/BMS advice

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. It's sounds like the Growatt inverter isn't a bad choice then as no one has called that out. Just need to decide on the BMS. I was originally thinking Seplos as that has been confirmed to work with the Growatt, but now it seems the JK is the better one to...
