Well, now that I just joined the forum. I am better informed. But I did last night go and preorder 4 of the new 24v power blocks from bigbattery with these supposedly -20c charging ability. Oh well. With the $100 off preorder price and the diysolar discount (take another $150 off) 16kwh...

Initial charge current is usually around 60a for a 12v Sealed Lead Acid battery so .2C is about 12amp. For my system I want 6kwh ability per day and I want to charge using generator if there is no sun for only 2 hours per day. So, 6kw at 12v is 500ah. At 12a it will take 42 hours to charge...

I tried the discount code at www.techdirectclub.com and it did not work. Specifically: "The coupon code you entered has been disabled so it can't be used. "

Great first hand information! Glad to hear the FLAs can have more life than I was aware of. Which Rolls batteries did you go with?
  • Post in thread: Graphine oxide cells

I couldn't find any posts about this. So here goes. The RC world has been ahead of the curve battery wise for quite a while. I was using Lipo and A123 batteries on my Align Trex 500 electric heli ten years ago. Today I dusted it off and noticed I am missing my charger . So I looked on the...

These are Lipo packs with very low internal resistance. I imagine the Lifepo4 chemistry packs could also use the same technology to lower IR. The graphine is very hard and would be resistant to micro cracks. I am thinking better longevity, more charge cycles.

As Hedges said a 3 day reserve is also desirable. So multiply the capacity by a factor of three. So 48kwh seems appropriate. If I we're going to stay with Lead Acid I would use 6v 200ah batteries. This would make a whopping 40 batteries. 40 * 6v * 200ah = 48000wh. Maybe less if you are...
