In a nutshell.... "So much winning" LOL Unfortunately our dear leader in DC has decided to piss off our friends (Canada, Japan, Mexico, Denmark & the EU the NATO alliance for example). Well declaring a trade war on the entire world... That is with the exception of North Korea, Russia and...
This is why I speed up the timeline for purchasing my solar equipment back in February to beat the tariffs. The batteries, panels and FlexBoss/GridBoss came last month. The Sinclair ground mount came Tuesday. The conduit, wiring and remaining parts have been purchased or ordered already...
This is a post I saw on FB. I thought I would share as it provides something to reflect and think about. Plus it's said better that I could write.
“In my life, I have watched John Kennedy talk on television about missiles in Cuba. I saw Lyndon Johnson look Richard Russell squarely in the eye...
I found a 15t hole punch on Amazon with 1/2" to 4" dies for a really good price as returned-like new. It is returnable if it's not what was described so worth the risk. And yes probable will use it more once I have it....
Plus whoever has the most tools wins right... :)
Mid-america solar is the dealer for Sinclair in Mi

I'm renting a mini x and an auger to set the post in concrete because they want about 600 bucks a post to pile drive them. I can get the mini x and have set the 5 posts for about $1,800 figuring about 4...
The lugs on the GridBoss can accept up to 4/0 wire. BUT 2/0 wire is acceptable. In a residential setting 2/0 is acceptable for 200 amp service. ( This assumes that the wire run short for example under 25' or so. If it's a long run you might have to up size the wire to keep the voltage drop...
That's is the attraction to using the GridBoss as it allows a cost effective way to mount the FlexBoss remotely in the barn as the cost for the conductors would be much less. Plus it gets the inverter out of the sun and the batteries indoors and into a warmer area for Wintertime.
X2 on Renewable Outdoors. I ordered 2 of the Lithi2-16 batteries along with the the RX9MP busbars and a pair of PP140 cables on Feb 3rd. They arrived today Feb 19th with a liftgate delivery. I am waiting till the ground mount comes to uncrate and install the EG4 inverter and batteries.
But no...
I talked to SS when I was looking into options a few weeks ago. In my case it would be on the West wall and in August that wall gets to be 140f plus (Cedar siding stained brown). In direct sun. They told me 140F was the limit since it it get gets hotter than that on a warm sunny day I am working...
Well I guess I fat fingered the calculator... In my case it was just comparing options of different angles of tilt. Going to use a Sinclair ground mount. Anything more than 35 degrees requires going with an adjustable tilt.
Since I'm in Michigan I am more concerned about the winter production. I...
I ran into the same issue and had to use a fused safety switch like this one. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Siemens-200-Amp-2-Pole-3-Wire-General-Duty-Fused-Outdoor-GF224NR/302352591
I did find a decent price on AliExpress for about $325 but it's not coming till the 20th.
The best price I found on...
Thanks for the ideas so far! I'm hoping to avoid mowing under the array. As far as storage it's too far away to be useful for that.
I like the landscape fabric idea as a way to trial the difference in production.
It might end up being grass with weed killer used at the posts being my best...
THANK YOU!
I called and they are getting me the price for the fuses that I will need for it as well. I have done a number of searches on the web and did not come across this place
Thanks!
Dave
I have a question. For my case my meter ( and service entrance to my main panel indoors) is on the west wall of the house. My AHJ states that the PV system disconnect must be within 3' of the meter. This wall gets full sun in the afternoon. I am in Mid-Michigan the hottest I saw this past summer...
It's on page 26 in the "Isolation device" section...
And yep looks like I need to use it. I see one that meets the requirements on Amazon for $380 but haven't found anything better yet.
Plus I need to get what look to be about $35 each fuses for it as my AHJ told me tonight it has to be fused....
I am new as well but not sure if you are aware of this resource that might help you...

Hi,
I am looking at panels for a system that I am in the planning stage with. I have a few questions that I was hoping to get some input on so I do not make a mistake that I will regret down the road... This will be in Mid-Michigan (42.6N) on a Sinclair adjustable angle ground mount. Because of...
Just an FYI my Ecobee also uses a temp based lockout setting for the HP compressor lockout. I use 30degf for it but the outdoor temp is supplied by internet with no way that I am aware of to change to a local hardwire sensor option ( but admittedly I have not dug deep into that).
The compressor...
Hi,
I have 2 RUiXU Lithi2-16 batteries along with the RUiXU RX9MP buss bars. I am using the RUiXU pre-made quick disconnect cables https://www.ruixubattery.com/product-page/lithi2-16-battery-cable-for-ruixu-rx9mp-busbar from the batteries to the buss bar so those are all equal length. However my...
In my case the GridBoss allows me to mount that in the basement. The inverter and batteries will be about 60' away in the barn. Hence the desire of the GridBoss to allow a one way run of 2 AWG wire from the Barn to the house for the power to the inverter. That was the key that made this...
Would something like this work to go between the meter socket and the Gridboss? It's what I am hoping to use as a means of isolating the grid from the Gridboss should it ever need to be swapped out...
Can we get back to the original topic? It looks like the Siemens GF224NR at $426.54 is the best I have found. The utility requirements are for it to be a knife switch my AHJ inspector is requiring it to be fused as well. A circuit breaker disconnect is not acceptable. And I am not willing to go...
Since your in Alto. Consider the Sinclair mount The price is good the link to the mounts is https://www.sinclair-designs.com/Sky-Rack-2.0-Ground-Solar-Mount The dealer in Mid-Michigan (Not sure if they have a dealer in the GR area) is https://mid-americasolar.com as Sinclair will not sell direct...
Forgive me if that have been answered already But I could not find an answer. My array will be about 230' from the inverter. I plan on running a EGC from the array to the FlexBoss inverter protected earth terminals. My question is Two fold...
It will have 3 strings of 10 gauge wire to the array...
I am just beginning to get started with the construction so I do not have data to back up this. But from the PV Watts app looking to see what is the best angle for the panels in Mid-Michigan. This is what I came up with. I am installing a Sinclair ground mount with the adjustable jacks for...
Hi,
I am looking for ideas other than Concrete painted White (spendy up from but once done little to no up keep other than maybe an annual pressure wash to get dirt off the concrete) or White Limestone chips over landscape fabric ( Probably $2-2,500 cheaper but by the time you figure the cost of...
I've been looking at different options as well while I wait for the approval from my local utility to be able to remain connected to the grid for days when I will not have enough battery.
A couple of things I found that I liked better than the mount and panel you chose. Just my opinion for the...
In Michigan they are regulated by the MPSC
https://www.michigan.gov/mpsc/consumer/electricity
If you want to remain connected to the grid you have to play by their rules that have been approved by the MPSC. Now I could go though the process of trying to have that requirement changed. But it's...
Not going to disagree but the economics only work if I shoot for covering at least 80% of the Dec & Jan usage. The cost of the ground mount and the copper for the run to the barn. Is the challenge that made a 5.67 kw setup even if I did micro inverters too expensive per kWh generated
Yes it is passive. No fans that's one of the reasons I got it as I couldn't mount it near the meter socket outdoors as it's too hot in the summer sun ( 145° + ) so it's in a finished basement in my workbench area.
My issue for getting the gridboss is the wall the meter socket is on is in full afternoon sun. Back in August with a temp gun that wall was 145 degrees. (dark cedar wood siding). So the gridboss is going in the basement with the main panel. The Flexboss and batteries will be in the barn about...
I have a GridBoss I am working on getting wired up. The largest knockout for wiring is for 2" PVC. To meet the conduit fill limit of the NEC I need to use 2.5" PVC conduit.
I need to run a total of Six 4/0 wires (3) from disconnect to the Grid terminal and (3) that will pass through the 200 amp...
You might want to re-consider your cost of the equipment for DIY. Yes I agree DIY is a lot cheaper than having someone install it. I have no choice but a ground mount (Geodesic dome in the woods) so it's about 300' from my field to the house. But 3 years ago I got a quote from an area installer...
Thank you everyone. I had not thought about a punch I'll have to see if maybe I can rent one that would be easier than masking off the area where I need to make the hole.
The plastic back sheet on the bottom side. And yes I'm under the voltage limit but the amps (and the watts) I will be over on the 3rd MPPT. It's withing the inverter limits for MPPT's 1 & 2 Just #3 that has a 5400 watt & 15 amp limit I'm over on.
690 is the section of the NEC but what's important is what year does your AHJ use? For example here in Michigan my township uses the state code that is the 2023 NEC. Some areas might still use the 2017 or 2020 NEC code.
Mike,
That's like what I had on my plan that was declined. They specifically stated that it can't be a breaker but has to a blade style visible kind. ( And that's makes it pretty much double the price of what you have). I'm just fugal so it hurts to spend $$$ I just the bright side is that...
Hi,
Trying to get my hybrid with grid feedback approved. I want to remain on grid for the surge capacity as well as the hedge for low production days that will not charge up my batteries. The are requiring a visible blade style disconnect that also can be locked out. I will be limited to 10kW...
It's the utility not my AHJ that is requiring the change...
This is the comment from my utility...
-Please make it clear that the AC disconnect is a blade style, has a visible open, lockable/taggable AC disconnect. Breaker style disconnects are not acceptable per the Interconnection Procedures.
