  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

I submitted a ticket to SS tech support, and got back that I should be charging bulk/absorb to 58 volts, float at 54v, and set low DC cutoff to 46v. I made the corresponding changes, and what do you know, as soon as the batteries hit 58 volts, the SoC of all the packs went to 100%. Finally, all...
  • Post in thread: Flat/Angled mounting of EG4 3000EHV-48 inverter

No surprise, but Signature Solar stated that mounting the inverter in any other orientation than vertical would void the warranty and isn't recommended. I think I figured out a way to work around my issue by building a knee wall to mount the inverters to.
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

    Bulk is set to 57v
  • Post in thread: EG4 3000 utility charging settings

I'm 95% off-grid for my system in its current state. After a couple poor sun days, my batteries get lower than I can reasonably recharge with the panels I have, so I have the grid hooked up to recharge during those periods. I have 4 of the EG4 3kw inverters in split-phase mode hooked up to 30kwh...
  • Post in thread: Connecting Solar Assistant to EG4 Lifepower batteries

I have a pair of EG4-3000EHV inverters setup in split-phase and a bank of 6 EG4 Lifepower4 v1 (as far as I know; purchased in mid-2022) batteries. I have closed-loop (RS-485) communication running between the inverters and batteries. Solar Assistant is working great for the inverters, and...
  • Post in thread: How much of a panel can go unsupported

I'm working on engineering my "ground" mount for a rack of Bluesun 460w bifacial panels. Due to the place I'm planning to put the array, at least some of it would need to overhang a different roof. I estimate I'd have at least 25% of the length of the panel unsupported. I don't think that will...
  • Post in thread: How much of a panel can go unsupported

cantilever I think is an accurate description of what I'm looking to accomplish. I'll double-check the datasheet, but I don't recall seeing a spec for that listed.
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

Yes, they hit 57 during bulk, then drop to 55.2 for float.
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

I've been a few days now, and unfortunately, the 5 balanced packs haven't reset their SoC scales, and pack 3 doesn't appear to have balanced itself. Though, when not fully charged, pack 3's voltages no longer show the 100mv delta when it's fully charged. Yesterday I tried to apply the BMS...
  • Post in thread: Flat/Angled mounting of EG4 3000EHV-48 inverter

I have a pair of EG4 3000EHV-48 inverters. However, with my available wall-space and the clearance specified in the manual for airflow/cooling, I'm having trouble cramming them on the wall, much less potentially adding 2 more to move more of my load to solar in the future. In the manual, I...
  • Post in thread: Recovering from poor purchase decisions

I feel like I made some generic beginners mistakes, and now I'm trying to figure out how to make the best of what I have. I'm seeking to build up an off-grid solar setup capable of powering a shed and an RV with 50-amp service. Now, from the get-go, I know that what I purchased isn't remotely...
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

I bumped float to 55 and absorption to 57, and we'll see what happens. My original voltages were set per the EG4 manual for the batteries because I didn't know what would happen if I exceeded them. This is my first foray into a battery that's not lead acid...
  • Post in thread: Class-T fuse sizing sanity check

When I built out my system, I included a Class-T fuse holder inline with the main cable coming off the battery rack bus bar. I'm using 4/0 105C-rated welding cable from the battery bank bus bars to the main distribution bus bars. The total run one-way from the distribution bars to the battery...
  • Post in thread: Neutral/Ground bonding on 3000EHV-48 inverters

With the recent video from Signature Solar regarding neutral/ground bonding recommendations and my permanent install of 4 3000EHV-48 inverters in process, I'm thinking about how my neutral/ground bond should be configured. It looks like SS's video is specifically in regards to their 6kw units...
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

The charger is set to bulk charge to 57 volts, then float at 55.4. Looking at the graphs, it does indeed hit 57 volts on the main DC bus, right up until it hits 57, then clips solar and goes into float. Do I need to set float higher? I'm certain I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
  • Post in thread: Rack Mount Air Conditioner

Typically, telecom gear is -48vdc. (positive ground) As a result, I don't think you could run it off of your existing 48-volt battery bank. That would be too easy... EDIT: If you completely isolate the A/C from any path to ground, it might work, but I'm not sure
  • Post in thread: Recovering from poor purchase decisions

That is a very good point. I have a couple of meters for measuring power usage on the way.
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

I have 3 EG43000EHV-48 inverters in split-phase backed up by 6 EG4 LifePower4 batteries. All of the batteries were purchased within 6 months of each other and commissioned at the same time. When charging the batteries, 1 battery appears to hit 100% while the others are around 70% charged. The DC...
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant on Pi4 not staying connected to EG4 Lifepower batteries

I've had 4 EG4 3kw inverters and 6 EG4 lifepower batteries connected to Solar Assistant now for several months. SA's running on a Pi 3 It's been working great, except for the past 2-3 months. After being up for around a month, the web interface starts getting really laggy, then grafana graphs...
  • Post in thread: EG4 3000 inverters in mixed on/eco mode

In a system of, say 4 EG4 3000EHV-48 inverters setup in split phase (2 per leg) is it possible to have a mixed configuration where 1 inverter on each leg is set in the on/active mode, while the other 2 set in eco mode? The goal would be to reduce the parasitic standby load of the additional...
  • Post in thread: Uneven battery charging and can't get to 100%

2 weeks later, and the batteries do appear to slowly be increasing in SoC when fully charged, but none have reset their SoC to 100%. Pack 3's cells appear to be pretty balanced, right until it hits the 100% mark, then the cell delta starts to grow. When it goes to discharge, the cells rebalance...
  • Post in thread: How easily will this pull be in 1" conduit

It's for a ground, though consulting the NEC table again, it should actually be a #10. The idea is to use the 3 #8s and a #10 for a 50-amp RV receptacle, and 3 #10s to feed a 120v single-leg sub-panel for up to 40 amps of critical loads like freezers.
  • Post in thread: How easily will this pull be in 1" conduit

It's all THHN. The existing conduit is an above-ground horizontal run around a shed that I installed in August and stuffed an 8/3 Romex into. The Romex didn't particularly like making the corner in the LB.
  • Post in thread: How easily will this pull be in 1" conduit

Ignoring the NEC rule regarding maximum number of current-carrying conductors in a conduit, how easily/possible will this cable pull be? I haven't buried any conduit yet, so plans can change, but I'm seeking to integrate into an existing 1" conduit where I'll be pulling the existing conductors...
  • Post in thread: Connecting Solar Assistant to EG4 Lifepower batteries

I tried your DIP switch settings and SA did successfully connect to the batteries....but then the inverters were complaining they couldn't talk to the battery and shut down their inverters. From what I'm reading, for closed-loop communication with the inverters, one battery must be in ID 0...
